He wants to thwart the groups trying to stop the Biscayne Bay dredging. In his little mind he was addressing one issue but he created instead a monster that will haunt us forever because big thinking is not a forte of anyone leading the legislature. this is a disingenuous argument
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection issued the environmental permit to the Army Corps of Engineers to conduct the dredging in November 2011. In fact, this project was on hold for lack of funding from the feds until Gov. Scott offered $75 million in state funds in March 2011. The environmental groups and residents filed a timely appeal of permit within the timeframe established by Florida law. Their goal is to assure adequate protection for Biscayne Bay. If Miami Dade County agrees with that goal then I'm sure mediation will be successful and the appeal can be settled in short order. If not....
