Mayor Shirley Gibson |
I know that Wade Jones is in the race but I don't know that he could win. The beloved Mayor of Miami Gardens -- Shirley Gibson -- she would have it in the bag. The Herald says about Miami Gardens "It now ranks the largest majority black city in Florida, and according to the 2010 census, the third-largest concentration of African Americans in the country."
There is a great video interview of Shirley Gibson on the Miami Herald site. Watch it!! She has a Ph.D. from St. Thomas University in theological studies.
I have heard Gibson speak many times and I admire her very much. I endorse Shirley Gibson for County Commission District 1...if only she will run! Barbara Jordan is one of the County Commission's Unreformable Majority, she needs to go.

I agree with you Genius that this is indeed God sent.
We need to grab these opportunities when we get them, mini miracles that most of us would not notice. But it is here and we need to get busy.
I don't know the district, but I have heard good things about Mayor Gibson.
Gibson is a jewel of a woman. Your bright idea has merit. I am going to call her now.
Gibson would make a great County Commissioner. I truly hopes she puts her name in, though I don't know what relationship she has with Jordan which may prevent her from doing so. Anyone know?
I remember Jordan glowing a few months ago about the incorporation of Miami Gardens, in which Jordan became a Commissioner after the fact and after a fierce battle waged by Gibson to get it done, against Jordan's benefactor.ld
You Go Shirley! Can we draft you for the District?
If Shirley Gibson was to join the County Commission the County Commission would undergo tremendous and historic change. Finally you have a workable idea Genius of Despair.
It is time for Barbara Jordan to go occupy her Key West home and retire and spare us from her bad governing.
Jordan has made a million dollar+ fortune out of public service (and our tax dollars), her bad decisions against the will of the tax payers and for the benefit of her brother and urban sprawl, at the cost of her Dist. are just putrid. Good bye Jordan, go retire in your glory knowing how much you've "helped" your buddy's and screwed your dist. and this county.
Begging you Shirley to help us please.
DO IT, SHIRLEY!
Go Shirley Go! Good woman.
Anyone is better than Barbara.
Commissioner Jordan is one of the best by far. I don't have anything against Gibson, but she should have learned from her race against Frederica Wilson, in which she came in third. If Rudy Moise got more votes than her, what makes you think she can be a commissioner as strong and as effective as Jordan. Jordan's district loves her!
People don't like Jordan in her district. Don't kid yourself. You obviously work for her...She is forever voting to take money from the Urban areas to spread it around out west and far south. I consider her a terrible County Commissioner and say again, She needs to go. People in her district that vote for her don't know what she is doing.
Let me start by saying I DO NOT work for Commissioner Barbara Jordan. I have had an opportunity to learn her from afar. I have found her to be a person of integrity, one who displays high standards and an impeccable work ethic. Someone mentioned her being a millionaire, most millionaires that we hear about rarely give back in service, time and personal money but rather they are found basking in their millionaire status. It is clear to me that you have not done your homework or due diligence when researching this God send miracle that we call Barbara Jordan.
GOD SEND MIRACLE YOU CALL BARBARA JORDAN...?????????????????????????????????????????
LMAO
I stand by my hating Barbara Jordan:

Barbara Jordan is known for her relatives. She has a sister Sandy Walker, in the photograph above. Sandy was an Aide to Commissioner Moss at one point then she was a lobbyist. Then she was arrested. She puts out a newspaper called the Gospel Truth. Barbara’s brother is Florida City Mayor for Life Otis Wallace. He has been governing about 80 years.
Little facts: Barbara Jordan sees herself as the housing guru. She addresses her brother as: Mr. Mayor. Although her sister Sandy was a lobbyist for Lennar’s Florida City Development of Regional Impact a few years back, Barbara claims they never discussed it. Although her brother was Mayor and her sister was the lobbyist, Jordan saw no conflict with voting on the issue. Again, they never discussed it.
Barbara Jordan says she is against billboards, which blight her poor community and make it look like a ghetto, yet she leaves the County Chambers rather than vote No to new pro-billboard legislation.
Time for Jordan to retire. Anyone would be better.
Barbara Jordan has been taking money from billboard companies. That is one reason her district is covered in them.
@Geniusofdespair...Barbara Jordan has served our community well from the time she headed the Community Action Agency, served as an Assistant County Manager and now as the Commissioner for District 1. I believe Mayor Gibson would agree because she too has served the City of Miami Gardens well. Good leadership recognizes good leadership. She would recognize the great work that Mrs. Jordan has done. Your blog, Geniusofdespair, appears to be the old divide and conquer tactic that has had a negative effect on the black community since the days of slavery.
You are truly an ass. Because I like Shirley Gibson you are using the race card? It is a misuse of the race card reader. I like Commissioner Moss so you tell me how it all computes in your pea brain. The races should all stop playing this card when an individual is under fire, it doesnt work. Why don't you accuse me of being anti- Hispanic because I don't like David Rivera? Tell me how I don't like my Hispanic nieces and nephews while you are at it. You might think this way but no one with half a brain does. Barbara Jordan is flawed as is Bell (white) and Diaz (Hispanic).
Barbara Jordan is one of the best public servants in Miami Dade County!
