County Commissioners Rebeca Sosa and the dastardly Lynda Bell are proposing a two 4 year term Home Rule Charter change. The County Commission has NOT approved this yet for the ballot.
Brito is proposing to amend the petition language she had submitted to the County Clerk to make it two four year terms but sitting Commissioners get only one term more. That will hurt. Brito said she would not proceed with the petition drive if the Commissioners make good on their two 4 year term change (without caveats) by putting it on the ballot. With one successful petition drive under her belt, it is not easy for the Commissioners to dismiss Brito. Her only weakness is funding but perhaps a car dealer might help her in that regard. So, she has forced their hand. Good! Let's see what unfolds.

I love it. The new language is better and will definitely pass. If the commissioners don't put a separate two term question on the ballot, they will regret it.
Good on Vanessa! I can only hope a "car dealer" or maybe two would help. Though, if I had the skill and funds, I'd simplify it even more to include any current sitting commissioner would be allowed to run for only one more term. I think that would get more support than the more complicated one as proposed. However, I don't know the legal ramifications, and it sounds like Vanessa has already looked in to that in regard to a challenge (and expensive) legal battle.
The car dealer spent more than a million dollars on the petition drive...not once has he expressed his willingness to spend that kind of money on term limits. Vanessa Brito was successful in the petition drive for a county commissioner with only a few thousand petitions needed...but to put a question on the ballot such as term limits she will need thousands and thousands of petitions ...she is a lawyer not a political consultant...with limited resources and no true experience on the County level...she will for sure fail...hence the threats to avoid the embarrassment of her not succeeding. I support retroactive term limits but Vanessa is not capable of backing up her strong language.
Actually I think Brito is a political consultant and not a lawyer. Braman needs to open his wallet again and put his money where his mouth is.
I personally think this would be an easy petition drive and with the 120 day timeline, I think it would be easy to get done on a minimal amount of money.

Second Anon: People like you make me sick. You are so quick to be negative and, instead of offering Vanessa your help, you dare to say "she will surely fail."
I cannot believe you said that...This is the woman who threw out one county commissioner and now that she is ready to take on term limits you bring your negativity to the party. How rediculous is that? You shouldn't judge others the way you judge yourself.
I applaud Vanessa for attempting to do this, and if she needs help, I will personally be there to help her as should you and everybody else who believe this is immportant to get done. I am not on the list of those who are afraid to take on a challenge and I am not afraid of hard work.
We now have 120 days to gather the signatures and, although she will have to get more signatures than the last time, if people like you would join in and put your shoulders to the wheel and help to secure the signatures, there is no way WE will fail.
If you don't have anything positive to say, then you should be quiet because the last thing we need is your defeatism.
The "activist" is selling list of those who sign her petitions to political campaigns.
Nothing wrong with making a buc here and there but just be upfront about it.
