Look up your favorite restaurants on Channel 10's website. If you hit on the name of the restaurant you can read the various violations. Some of them don't sound so bad. I didn't see any feces in food violation.
Here is a sampling of the State of Florida inspections of Miami Dade County Restaurants right from the website. If it is misleading - blame channel 10. They are apparently adding violations together from separate inspections on some of them. With 22,222 total violations, Miami is the top violator. St. Pete has the best record with 3,486 violations but they also have less restaurants. Ft. Lauderdale had only 5,393 and they are loaded with restaurants so I suppose I should start eating North.
There were plenty of places with "0" violations in Miami so don't despair, you will find places you can still eat at:
Homestead: 17695 Cafe - 15 violations, Canton Chinese - 22 violations, Antojitoa Mexicano - 18 violations.
Coconut Grove: Barracuda Bar & Grill - 20 violations, Calamari - 15 violations, Scotty' Landing - 14 violations.
South Miami: Casa Larios - 25 violations.
Coral Gables: Ace Tuna - 16 violations, Caffe Vialetto - 27 violations, Cibo Wine Bar - 18 violations, Randazzo's Little Italy - 22 violations, The Cafe at Books & Books - 22 violations.
Miami: Local Craft Food and Drink - 20 violations, Anoranzas - 16 violations, Bennigans (3449 NW LeJeune Road) - 29 violations, Brazaviva Churrascaria - 49 violations.
Miami Beach: Half Moon Empanadas - 27 violations, Havana 1957 - 28 violations, Lucy's Taqueria - 33 violations, Arlen Beach Cafe - 24 violations.
Palmetto Bay: Irish Tavern & Grill South - 18 violations.
Doral: 5300 Chophouse - 18 violations, Basilico Ristorante at Doral - 15 violations, Yuki Hana Japanese - 25 violations.

Your post is misleading.
For instance, you write "The Cafe at Books & Books - 22 violations."
Sure, they've had 22 violations since September of last year...but, their most recent inspection on Jan. 12, 2012 shows they had zero violations.
It might have been helpful if you included that.
Just copied what Channel 10 posted.
Wow! Cafe Larios has so many violations?! Makes you think, huh?
I would check on any restaurant you eat at with the link I provided and read the violation history. Bill is right they might have cleaned up their act... but we also can't ignore they did get those violations even if they did improve.
Bill, no recent violations as of a single inspection, less than a moth ago, is like a bad driver bragging that he or she has not received any tikets lately.
How bad must the Cafe at Books & Books be to ever garner 22 violations? Yuck! Its a minimal eatery. We should all be thankful that B & B is not running a full service restaurant.
Casa Larios WAS my favorite in South Miami.
if you took a look at the majority restaurant kitchens here or else
where-you would actually ask 'how do the health inspectors get their qualifications'because most kitchens are not clean! The employees have no clue about germs, coughing, sneezing, wiping their face and touching food, talking over the plates of food while carrying to the table, etc, etc, most places should be clsed and RE-DO THE GUIDELINES FOR INSPECTIONS!!
Radanzzo's in Coral Gables is super dity...the plastic tablecloths are covered in grease and old food. The restrooms are disgusting...roaches behind the bar..menus are slimey.wont be going back there !!!!!!!!
