Election Results for Charter Change. By Geniusofdespair

(9:40 pm) With 732 of 829 precincts on the increase in time for petitions - 57.96% YES and on the Commission salary increase/term limits/no outside employment - it is 54.11% NO. Percentages remaining the same.

(7:30 pm) This is only early voting and absentee ballots but the writing is on the wall. Looks like if percentages follow, the extension of time for petitions will win and the salary increase/term limits/no outside employment is going to go down in flames.

Can we EVER help ourselves?? Are we doomed in this Paradise Lost?

The public does NOT want to pay the current commissioners a higher salary. How many times has this been put to a vote? Thirteen times! This time it was especially ridiculous: no explanation about where the higher salary was to come from; no answer about what would happen to the $100,000+ salaries of their staff, no explanations. This vote was a referendum about the current Commission. If they had all been forced to re-election, if the salary increase was for a new slate of commissioners, if the term limits had been retroactive .... if, if... But they didn't do any of that. They wanted to keep their perks, have another eight years AND a salary increase, and for the 13th time, the public said: NO!

The Public said YES! Yes, to just continuing to bitch about leadership instead of grabbing a piece of the reins. Life is all about cutting the baby in half. Poco Poco Inch by Inch we have to take control of the reins.
The morons continue the march to oblivion...
Now we can only watch Rivera and Martinez continue to set up Gimenez.
Alas
we deserve what we get.

Anon above: You are so right! I spoke with several people and they all said the same things:

"I won't give them a salary that big"

"Most of them on the dais never made that much money in their whole life, plus they have benefits"

"Nothing has changed"

"they want everything and they will still work outside and get away with it."

"retroactive term limits"

If it was a new slate of qualified candidates they would have gotten it

Their demands were too much to bear.

These commissioners do not want to give up anything. They have never lived so well in their life. It has become a part of them, a crutch. Plus they have all the trappings of elected office. Look at each one. Where were these people or what did they do before they got elected? Does anyone really think they will ever get that kind of salary from the voters? I also heard from a connected person that they really did not want it to pass.

Until we vote them out or recall them, it will be business as usual.

We need to stop wishing and begin to look at recalls professionally. We did it before and we can do it again. I have seen so much intelligence on this blog, people who understand the political system and have experience and great ideas. There is a lot here if we could only get together and develop a plan.

Again, you were so right Anon.

These commissioners are not worth $92,000 a year. Yes, they will continue to conduct business as usual. They are totally aware of the $6,000 the job pays.

Maybe this salary issue might have had a better chance if Lynda Bell had not attached her name to it.

The recall passed with flying colors and I am sure it will be used when its necessary to clean house. For the Miami Dade Government to claim it is broke cannot pay the police, waste workers, bus drivers etc. but want to give high salaries to themselves. You are really taking us for a bunch of clueless fools.
Please do not bing this salary increase to us again. It has failed everytime. The next commissioner that suggest this needs to be RECALL.
I am proud of the people that voted today. We are finally paying attention to elected officials.

I think the Commies wanted this outcome, as now they can stay in office FOREVER! They were smart in tying the term limits with rediculous salary increases. They knew people would vote 'no'. This gives them indefinite terms.
