Opposition to Casinos grows in Florida ... by gimleteye

Former legislator Dan Gelber explains to the Miami Herald editorial board on video the many reasons that casinos will be a "dream that is never realized" while corrupting a generation of Florida politicians. "No Casinos" John Sowinski notes the speculator culture in Nevada has resulted in one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation; with casinos.

"No Casinos" dovetails with the report, "Miami-Dade lacks a competitive edge". "The report only touches on the gambling debate, noting that large downtown Miami properties planned by casino giant Genting and a retail and residential complex by Swire could cause severe traffic problems."

Could?  Traffic is only one-- but a leading indicator-- of the poor planning that has lead to massive infrastructure deficits in our community. Instead of dealing with realities, and providing the kinds of incentives that major employers need to attractive high paying jobs and talent, casinos represent a form of economic surrender.

There are no positive economic benefits for casinos, other than for insiders and the immediate beneficiaries of the speculator culture. It is time to chase the money-changers from the temple and not to invite them in.

YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. PLEASE KEEP REPORTING ON THIS ISSUE. IT IS DEFINITELY, A HORRIBLE IDEA FOR MIAMI DADE COUNTY. IT MAY WORK IN ANOTHER STATE BUT NOT FLORIDA.

WOULD YOU BEGIN TO LIST NAMES OF POLITICIANS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, COMMUNITY LEADERS AND HIGH PROFILE PEOPLE SUPPORTING THIS ENDEAVOR. THANK YOU.

This is a highly informative video.

Why is that this type of discourse is virtually non-existent in any mainstream media outlet?
