An ordinance creating new County Commission Districts is on the agenda today. Doesn't look good to me for some minority districts. Monestime and Jordan are okay. Edmonson might find it tough with 39% Hispanic. Bell will also find it harder with only 26.6% White unless some Hispanics are not registered to vote. Goodbye Bell. Moss could lose in his district, it is only 28.2% Black. Suarez had better be listening to his White constituents as he has a pretty high percentage 32.8%. I expect this meeting will be worth watching. The public hearing is December 19th, fitting right in with my holiday schedule. See the story in the Miami Herald -- Pinecrest gets taken from Bell and goes to Suarez.
The Herald has a map of the proposed districts.
Population Changes:
District 1, Barbara Jordan 2000 = 168,488. 2010 = 175,046
District 2, Jean Monestime 2000 = 169,506. 2010 = 166,849
District 3, Audrey Edmonson 2000 = 169,241. 2010 = 173,531
District 4, Sally Heyman 2000 = 169,912. 2010 = 187,794
District 5, Bruno Barreiro 2000 = 175,602. 2010 = 193,265
District 6, Rebeca Sosa 2000 = 174,559. 2010 = 186.719
District 7, Xavier Suarez 2000 175,795. 2010 = 194,477
District 8, Lynda Bell 2000 175,127. 2010 = 206,733
District 9, Dennis Moss 2000 = 172,895. 2010 = 230,102
District 10, Javier Souto 2000 = 178,968. 2010 = 173,610
And then we have the Bad District Commissioners:
District 11, Joe Martinez 2000 = 177,576. 2010 = 213,839
District 12, Jose Pepe Diaz 2000 = 171,960. 2010 = 201,457

Bovo's only been in office a few months and he's already bad? The folks in Hialeah will have their say and I'll bet you a double shot latte he gets reelected.
As for Bell, her district was almost as Hispanic in 2010, when she got elected. Dig deeper into the data and you'll find the Hispanics in her district are more second generation than the Hispanics in Bruno's district. She'll have to do some heavy lifting, but she can hang on in 2014, as well.
Interesting, taking the Pinecrest component out of District 8. There goes a bastian of Jewish and Anglo votes so the Hispanics have another sure thing with this seat. I am sure the Pinecrest set was none too happy about sharing a district with Homestead, anyway.
Whites are a minority in Miami Dade. How does taking Pinecrest away from District 8 help the White Minority? Maybe District 7 should be the White district.
Bovo has been around for a long time.
Did you not listen to Bovo speak in favor of the UDB move?
This is not about White, Black or Hispanic, it's about having a morally corrupt Commission and Lobbyist form of government that makes it almost impossible to unseat these people once they get into office. Look how long it took to take out the vile Natacha and the uber corrupt Rolle!!!! As long as people sit home during municipal elections (only 11-18% turn out to vote) we will continue to live with this nastiness, and our democracy will deteriorate more every day just like our community.
Now we have these brainiacs trying to sell us a crock of bull with the casinos, an "industry" that will change the face of our community FOREVER. And all these rocket scientists have to say for themselves is "but it will create jobs..." I guess teenage prostitution is a job, so is organized crime. For shame.
Redistricting Expert defending Bovo and offering Genius a double latte bet sounds like Bovo's Chief of Staff always walking around with a Starbucks Coffee. I guess they are in favor of gambling/betting.
Regarding today's meeting, since when is Bovo an expert on Tallahassee sentiments? He was useless in Tally voting only when told to do so and now pretends to know it all. Too funny
Find out who owns land tracts in the new district, and you will find out who supports Bell.
Moss does little for the Blacks in his district. A more productive Black, White, or other candidate who can actually help the poor Blacks in that area is very much in order as they have suffered under his leadership long enough.
Leenda Bell's favorite Spanish word next to "Chupacabra" is "Gratis".
This district map is gerrymandered to accommodate Bell?
Does the new area take in the 8.5 square mile area?
Does District 11 secure the Krome Ave. Expansion and El Rey Christo Expnasion as well? I do believe that the new 11 area better takes in the Krome Gold areas.
