Art Basel: the traffic nightmare begins ... by gimleteye

Eye on Miami has not been charitable to the traffic "improvements" that failed to finish up by the time Art Basel arrives. The worst: the closed eastbound North Miami Avenue exit serving Midtown, Art Miami and the satellite art fairs in Wynwood on 195. How could Miami-Dade County and FDOT, fail to get this right? Traffic will back up to 95 and squeeze visitors on Biscayne Boulevard where they will meet up with traffic from the Biscayne Boulevard eastbound exit.

For the past several months indifferent, and poorly staffed, construction crews have been at work. If this were China, the traffic improvements would have been done and finished. But it is Miami. My bet is still that traffic will be the Art Basel story. We locals live with it, but it is going to create a very, very sour taste for visitors and business Miami depends on. Who will stand up and take responsibility?

Listen, don't blame the County. They tried to persuade the State to get the work done. It is the State that is oblivious to Art|Basel Miami Beach.
