The City of Miami District 2 Election is Heating Up. By Geniusofdespair
Open Media Miami is having a forum with the District 2 City of Miami Commission candidates tonight, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. at Legion Park, 6447 NE 7th Avenue (East of U.S. 1 and 64 Street). Be there. I have been to one of these forums and it did convince me who to vote for...that is if I were voting. On a related matter, Miami City Commission candidate Michelle Niemeyer has filed a complaint with the Miami-Dade Commission on Ethics and Trust today regarding the misuse of public resources, specifically the employees and resources of the Downtown Development Authority, by DDA Chairman Marc Sarnoff for campaign purposes.
Here is a quick look at the campaign reports for this seat. The incumbent Marc Sarnoff has raised $426,203.19 and spent $342,594.98. In the report due October 15th he raised $8,230. His biggest expense was $60,000 for a media buy to Palm Media, LLC. (Jeffrey Garcia, Manager). Kate Callahan has raised $29,550 this reporting period and spent $26,011. Overall she has raised $109,609.32 and she has spent $101,690.46. She gave her campaign a $10,000 loan. I don't understand the $1,040 travel reimbursements on this campaign report. Where the hell is this woman Mercy traveling to and from for a local campaign? Paragon Media, also working for Callahan, looks like the new kid on the block, having only been incorporated since April. In this period Paragon (Alexander Malagon) got $6,760. Vanessa Brito of Miami Voice is also on the Kate Callahan team.
Michelle Niemeyer raised $4,065 this report with her total at $82,140.10. She has spent $77,599.19 overall but only $2,872.44 during the period ending 10/14 - making her the most frugal out of the bunch.
Donna Milo has raised $1,750 this report for a total of $82,055. She has spent $50,069 overall, with $24,481 of it spent between 9/24 and 10/07. Oh, I see she has Dark Horse Strategies (Emliano Antunez - Pictured at left) working her campaign. This guy also worked on the Paul Crespo campaign against David Rivera (didn't like either of those two - double ick).
Last but not least, the link to Williams Armbrister's campaign report for this period is not working.
I am not endorsing on the District 2 seat. If you want to leave a comment try not to be nasty, I am not in the mood to watch this damn post all day.

Dark Horse Strategies is a great name. They should all have this kind of name; a name that fits:
Steve Marin: Marin's Black Hat Consulting.
Armando Gutierrez: Gravely Sinister Advisor.
Keith Donner: Misinformation Expert Consultant.
Callahan, who I support, took a beating in the Miami Herald in a letter to the editor by Tibor Hollow.
EOM:
You might not want take a stand on this race, but I urge you to reconsider. The D-2 commissioner will carry a large responsibility in the future of downtown Miami - the Genting project included. Perhaps an insightful analysis - as you usually do - as to the incumbent commissioner Sarnoff's past behavior and voting record could easily project what his vote would be to "protect" our fabulous city.
Just as the county mayoral race was of utmost importance, so is the D-2 commission race. I can see no other political races - municipal or county - that could affect us so very much.
Please take a stand - whichever it is - because you both have demonstrated well-researched and ethical journalism.
We need you now more than ever.
PLEASE reconsider your position.
Michelle filed an ethics complaint against Sarnoff for DDA absentee mailer/voter turnout mailer - reported in today's Daily Business Review. I guess that will come up in tonight's forum.
This district also covers some of Miami's most beautiful natural areas - Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserve - slated to be bored, blasted and dredged by Port of Miami expansion projects and Virginia Key, also ensnared in that expansion with the Port tunnel debris slated to be dumped on the North Point bike trail area and the landfill, which is still not cleaned up after two decades. What are the candidates' positions on these issues? What will they do to ensure public access and public amenities on Virginia Key? Will they lead to get the landfill cleaned up after all these years?
