Secret Memo from South Florida Water Management District Revealed: the Fanjuls troll for science ... by gimleteye

By slashing science budgets of the water management districts, Gov. Rick Scott will ensure no one will be left to interpret the past, in order to calibrate government investments to protect current and future taxpayers and citizens. In the future, there will only be experts employed by private industry -- in this case, billionaires-- to interpret how restore, preserve and protect Florida's irreplaceable natural resources. This is a revolutionary development.

Look how it is working out: the same week Governor Scott took a hatchet to the science staff at the South Florida Water Management District, Florida Crystals (owned by the Fanjul billionaires) -- the sugar producer most closely associated with political maneuvering to prolong and indefinitely delay Everglades restoration-- trolled for layed-off scientists through a confidential email sent out by the District. It came from the "procurement bureau" and not "human resources":

"The HR Director from Florida Crystals e-mailed me yesterday. He is interested in seeing the resumes of the 20 Scientist’s that were lay off. I gave him Lourdes’s name and contact information, but just in case he is not able to get in touch with her, I thought you may be able to let the individuals know that FCC is looking for scientist’s. Please pass along if you know of others. Jose Perez Jose e-mail Jose_Perez@floridacrystals.com "

The lesson of the economic crisis is that the very rich will determine what is necessary to protect their prerogatives. This is not exclusively but it is mainly a GOP agenda, using economic dislocations to eviscerate protections of the public interest. It is not survival of the fittest, it is survival of the richest. That's not what the Founding Fathers had in mind for the United States of America, but who pays attention to history anymore.

Gimlet, you know that Alfie and Pepe have Marquito inside their pockets... and, in having Marquito, they have Rick Scott, Jeb Bush, and whoever's gonna be the next Republican presidential candidate. Very little can be done against that kind of power... only hope is that Obama is re-elected.

there should be a movement to recall Rick Scott, how can a person who was allegelley was accused of Medicade fraud. He is now the governor. This is what you get when you put a crook in power.

He will force people who are on some type of govenment assistance, that includes workers comp and unemployment to take drug test, and guess who will be the company providing the services. He "wife" company.

People wake up. He wants everyone to make 10.00 an hour, loose your home and get medicade.

He needs to be recalled.
