Blogger Banned From City of Miami MRC Building. By Geniusofdespair

Yep, not only was blogger Al Crespo banned from the King Mango Strut earlier this year, today he was denied entry to the City of Miami Riverside Center. He is contemplating suing over what he calls the "Crespo Policy." He has been a constant critic of the City of Miami and its Commissioners, and its Mayor, and its Police Chief, and....you get the idea. According to NBC News:
Proof of the Crespo rule might have come Monday when the blogger tried to enter the building and was stopped and told he had to have an appointment, even as dozens of other citizens freely walked by security without being questioned.

“This is a sad state of affairs,” said Crespo, whose Crespo-Gram Report was recently blocked from city computers. “The city is $61 million in the hole, the mayor is under criminal investigation and the police chief is about to be fired in two weeks and they waste the entire morning on this.”

Crespo’s limited access to the building is the product of a new measure to ensure employee security, said Assistant City Manager Luis Cabrera.

They have a good video on the NBC site.

Good to see you bloggers sticking together. You are all we have, given the uninterested local "conventional" media

I kinda of agree with it. I would not lump Al Crespo and EyeonMiami in the same bundle.

Crespo spends his morning writing about the "Mayor's wrinkly ass" and encouraging everyone to speak against...never for anything the City does.

Crespo has had a vendetta since Harry Gottlieb(sp?) came around. And now that Crespo is relevant he is trying to stick around by making as much noise as possible.

EyeOnMiami does not spend his time going around using hyperbole as if its the standard text.

I hate to write negative stuff...especially anonymously. Crespo is not a bad guy...but he aint stellar either.

It's not NBC News. It's NBC 6. Big difference.

Say what you will about Crespo's motives, but he has uncovered massive corruption that has gone unreported by "real" media outlets.
As a citizen , Crespo has a right to enter the public access areas as do all other citizens.
I work in MRC and can testify that the man has never caused a work disruption there nor has he interfered in the normal process of business, which of course is providing SERVICE to the PUBLIC.
The employees as a group applaud Crespo for his work.
It's time the Feds wake up and take control of what little is left and worth saving in the City.

Al Crespo uncovered all of those Ethics Commission shenanigans, including the fact that they were illegally re-electing Kerry Rosenthal as their chair for years even though term limits prevented it. Crespo is a local hero.

Looks like another law suit against our bankrupt city. People have the right to complain and people have the right to explore how our politicians are using our tax dollars. He digs into our city like GOD digs into the county. When was the last time GOD said something good about the county?

If people relied on the Miami Herald for all their news, they would have Sarnoff signs in their yards, red-light cameras on their highways, and LED signs on their way to the beach. Oh, wait a minute.....

Hey I say plenty good about the County. For instance, I endorse candidates. There has to be good things said in an endorsement. I didn't vote to recall the Mayor and said good things about him. I had plenty of good things to say about Katy Sorenson and recently commended Audrey Edmonson on her strong stance against moving the UDB. You had better read us more...our criticism is targeted...mostly.

You're right. You do have lots of good comments I guess my point is that you don't mind calling people out when needed, something that we really need in the city of Miami.

Miss Kay Sorenson! Wish we had a majority like her.

Crespo is a resident and taxpayer who should not be denied access whatever his opinions or writings might say. There is freedom of speech the last I heard.
Regardless of whether someone is 'difficult', the city administration should find a way to work with the public since it has obligations under sunshine laws and all requests for information should be treated equally.

When Crespo asked for a personnel file at the county records office, the clerk insisted that he must first show his ID, a procedure they had been following for years. Crespo knows the public records law and he challenged the policy and won. The county will still ask for an ID, but if you refuse, they will give you the file regardless. Cheers to Al Crespo. He fights for our rights.

Al Crespo I must meet you. I need someone to assist me in exposing the tax assessors office for their poor investigations dealing with homestead exemptions and tax liens. This office is one of the worst in the county and many citizens are being penalized illegally through this office. This office is nonresponsive in giving public record request to the citizens. We need you!

Al Crespo should not be denied access to any taxpayer owned building.
