One group doesn't want the blasting, Friends of West Kendall, the other group, Suburban Acres, doesn't want the cemetery. My advice to both is to unite into one big group and fight both issues together. Unless, of course, one of the groups made a deal with the devil -- developers in the area -- then that group should rot in hell.
The blasting issue is being heard today by the Miami Dade County Commission lets hope Commissioner Audrey Edmonson continues with a good voting streak.
You people from both groups: Where were you when we were fighting UDB and rock mining issues over the years, just curious? MIA. Suddenly you care about the environment because your neighborhood is threatened? If you care like you say you do in your 2 full page Miami Herald ads, Friends of West Kendall, call Laura Reynolds at Tropical Audubon and help in the ongoing fight - become part of an even larger group. You ALL would be most welcome.

Here we go again with the Friends group who has no interest in revealing their true identity. I thought this item was going to be deferred again today because Edmonson was going to be absent again (as were other commissioners) and they would still have an even no. of commissioners attending.
If you were at the hearing, you would have known who friends of West Kendall are. And I believe you were invited go a meeting. There is discussion with between the mining and the cemetery. Seems like you don't care about the future of Miami or the water we drink. Maybe we can buy it from China when the time comes.
If you came to all OUR meetings we would know who you were too. Your meetings are too far for me.
YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS BLOG.
ALAN FARAGO -- GIMLETEYE -- IS THE CONSERVATION CHAIR OF FRIENDS OF THE EVERGLADES THAT DOES FEDERAL LITIGATION TO PROTECT THE DRINKING WATER IN THE EVERGLADES. THE GROUP EVEN WENT TO THE SUPREME COURT AND WON A CASE. THEY COULD HAVE SURE USED MONEY FROM YOUR GROUP TO HELP WITH ALL THE LITIGATION OVER THE YEARS. SO DON'T TELL US WHO DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WATER. WE HAVE BEEN FIGHTING TOGETHER ON BEHALF OF CLEAN WATER FOR OVER 20 YEARS.
Don't get angry G.o.D. They are just nimby's who have jumped on the water bandwagon to thwart the noisy rock mining. They know not what they do. I think they owe you and Alan an apology.
So is this issue being bumped again? This would be the third time they've stalled the vote...
Yep. Bumped until Oct.
They did not have a quorum. Applicants seemed relieved. Hmmmm, time to collect more signature$? Wandering minds want to know.
Friends of West Kendall? Stop the devise tone... you guys are the friends of developers and lobbyist who compete with the miners. Nice front but no cigar…
Really? No seriously Really!?
How petty. Your tones should be inclusive of these new groups. Strength in numbers, no matter their 'nimbiness'. The Special Interests sit back watch us become parochial with each other and end up getting their destructive ways passed. Friends of West Kendall thank you for your past accomplishments. However sitting back, resting on your laurels and allowing the new kids to be bullied on your 'environmental' Blog is sad. We do apologize for being to far away for you to attend our meetings.
No developers in Friends of West Kendall. You're right that this fight started with the blasting but now it all about the environment and community. Our 2 page ad was about our community.
Agree, The Audubon Society is a friend of West Kendall.
Dear Genius of Despair, Gimleteye and all other participants in this blog.
My name is Andres Fernandez. I am a friend of West Kendall.
I have read the postings and must agree with many of your statements. I will speak in the singular but am sure that I speak on behalf of the majority of my other neighbors.
I have provided you with my full name. I do not need to hide behind a “club name” for a lack of a better term. Perhaps in our inexperience, we felt that naming ourselves would be convenient. I do not have any affiliation to any developers or special interest groups.
I am a novice or newbie to all of this. I am just an ordinary citizen with no expertise in these matters. I honestly have sat back for many years and have acted as the “disgruntled voyeur” to the problems in our community. It is also true that the rock mining is at my doorstep so to speak but I have taken on the task of making a difference in all aspects of our community.
I commend you all for your many years of involvement. Our community owes you all a great deal of gratitude. I have now seen the absurdities that exist in our county government first hand and have chosen to take action. I can appreciate the frustration of many of you towards nimbys. But if we are all to make a difference, we need to be cohesive not fractured. I ask that you help us and work with us.
Our recent efforts in our advocacy advertisement was our attempt at bringing awareness to the issues. This was at great financial sacrifice by many of us.
I understand that our recent meeting was not at a convenient location. It is our hope to meet you all, learn from you and work with you. We need your help. I am not providing you with my phone# here simply because I believe that your forum is very powerful and must be monitored by many including special interests. Our email is Friendsof.westkendall@yahoo.com.
I would like to reiterate that we need your help. We would like to meet with you all at your earliest convenience. Please contact me at the above email and I will forward you all my contact information.
I hope this posting provides some clarity and shows that we are desirous to make a difference in our community. If we ban together and start winning a few of these battles maybe we can turn our community around.
The decision is yours whether to work with us or ignore us. I hope you decide to help us. Again we need like your help.
Regards,
Andres
Andres Fernandez--
Welcome to our world! Thank you for caring and wanting to help make this community better. You will learn a lot about countywide issues here on our blog. Sorry I seemed hostile to your group but we have been burned a lot. You can see already I am sure how you are used and abused by some county commissioners. Glad to have you join us for more than your neighborhood fight. Going against both Shoma and Cemex is giving you a quick education.
As one of many "Friedns of West Kendall", I learned early on in confronting CEMEX & Santa Fe is that they are very good at utilizing their substantial resources to (influence) "decisions" in their favor.
The arrogance of giving themselves license to take what they want with complete disregard for the community should alarm us all - regardless of one's proximity to the activities in question.
This battle is one that anyone with the right conviction can take on, however, as in anything like this, it is always best to garner as much support as possible - so any input and/or assistance is always welcome and appreciated - in fact, I am actually seeking the services of an Environmental Attorney, which would considerably help to guide my efforts in the right direction as we pursue this.
Make sure you have the RIGHT environmental attorney. All the brazen lobbyists call themselves environmental attorneys...I will email you with a good one....
Please join the Tropical Audubon Society on this issues and others! You find review our website at www.tropicalaudubon.org and also subscribe to our e-mail list here: http://visitor.r20.constantcontact.com/manage/optin/ea?v=001povWiHOjwz_gjUpI_FzhTg%3D%3D
Also, someone had commented that the Board of County Commissioners did not reach a quorum- this is not true. Ten Commissioners were present- they did not reach a super majority (9 votes) on this issue. We'll see them back on Thurs., Oct. 6th!
Thank you Stephanie, it was great seeing you there. Also thank you for clarifying our present position. Yes, indeed, we will be back on 06Oct. During this time we would like to maintain momentum and create further traction. To address the concerns of environmental or industrial skulduggery: we are who we are. We are out in the open, yet we have decided to paint a non NIMBY landscape. Each of us has our forte or particular environmental
issue to champion. However, the proximity to the '412' destruction is a 'West Kendall' issue. Friends of West Kendall has been open and transparent. FOWK has met with Suburban Acres. We continue to be available for much needed guidance. There is plenty of work ahead for all.
Whats a little blast every 2 weeks or so, If you can't grow it Mine it.
