Mayor Gimenez: Here is How to Balance the Budget. By Geniusofdespair

Since the City of Miami is selling ad space on their municipal buildings, draping a giant banner with a TV ad on their Miami River Center, I figured we should take it a step further. Why not sell ad space on County Commissioners? I figure we could squeeze in 20 ad stickers (17 are shown in this photo of Barbara Jordan). I would pay $200 for an ad for Eye on Miami. If we charge $200 for 20 ads that would be $4,000 for each commission meeting for one commissioner. Multiply that by 13 commissioners and you have $52,000 each commission meeting. If you have 12 meetings a year that could bring in $624,000.

Now of course we have more room on Pepe Diaz so we could expect more revenue from him. When I first proposed the idea a reader said:

"They could even be paid a bonus every time the TV cameras panned to them. If they talk too much and meetings run overtime they could get another bonus. Brilliant."

Just think of what the ramblin' man Javier Souto could bring in under those conditions! I think we could also charge more for prime space like a chin or cheek. We could even fit more ads on the back of their hands, if we have them rest their chin on their hands. What do you think readers?

Brilliant. You could also sell corporate logos to be affixed to the back of the chairs in the auditorium at County Hall! And on the live feed from the commissioner chamber, you could have a scroll bar filled with corporate advertisements. There are so many branding opportunities, once you get started you don't know where to stop.

You forgot, the clerk, attorneys, commissioner's aides, the expresso woman, etc. They also should be required to wear labels. That would easily bring your total to over a million dollars. Often I have seen a Commissioner speaking with their aide fidgeting in the background.

Too bad Rolle and Seijas are gone. Gimenez could have had us in a surplus situation by October.
Just imagine that broadcast in HD and 3D.

It only gets done if Marc Sarnoff's campaign
manager Stevie Marin gets a piece of the action. What other lobbyists will demand "a taste"?

Anyone see Marc Sarnoff's new LED billboards on I-95?

I don't think the logos have to be quite that large. I think you could easily fit 40 ads on one commissioner. That would double your estimate. Why can't they wear them to events too? Could we not reap $10 million if we include events?

Is Sarnoff getting paid for his Gucci belt buckles? They are bigger than him.

No reason Sarnoff needs to limit himself to Gucci. He could put a STEVE MARIN sticker on his forehead. Maybe a PROPERTY OF CLEAR CHANNEL on his chest?

This is great. Maybe I'll fax it to our new mayor!

How much will a big "eye on miami" billboard across one of Miami's skyline cost? hmmm.... I bet the politicians would love that one!
