Friends of West Kendall Have a Good Writer and Mucho Money To Stop a UDB Move. By Geniusofdespair

What gives? Environmentalists would kill to have enough money for this full page ad in the Miami Herald against Cemex/Shoma Homes' application to expand the UDB Line to rock-mine. I looked for the group "Friends of West Kendall". It says find us on Facebook. Not there. I looked it up in Corporate papers not there. Who are they?

Hey, I am glad that someone paid for this ad against moving the Urban Development Boundary (what is the cost of a full page Herald ad, $20,000?) and wrote the copy so well but I am curious where the money came from.

(Hit the ad pages to expand it)

As the comments come in, I am beginning to think this was written by a development attorney such as Jeffrey Bercow. Environmentalists don't care about the stupid hospital out there and never would have put a picture of it in the ad. And environmentalists appreciated Carlos Alvarez's steadfast support of the UDB line. And environmentalists and/or citizens would never write such goofy stuff about water, like "Water is the bringer of life and harbinger of death."

The Miami Herald should have checked on the name sponsoring the ad or were they too anxious to pocket the money to care? I like to know who is manipulating me. Who wrote the check?

It is shame that citizens have to raise money to spend on an ad like this and a symptom of what is wrong with our democracy.

It's also a symptom of what's wrong with our County Commission. Though, we'll have to wait until the 21st to see if the unreformable majority wins or not.

In any event, I want to be a friend of West Kendall! This ad is pure genius! (no pun intended)

It might be a Norman Braman production.

Friends of west kendall are behind homebuilders and land speculators. Happy to have their support on this one. New planned communities outside udb are not the same interest as rock mining. Remember rock miners "Dunn" funded hold the line campaign to keep udb from getting closer to them. Rock mining is the worst of evils because of water issues. This article was not done by farming neighbor. Big money went into this!!!!

I agree last anonymous. I think you might have solved it. Afterall this would be easy for them. They just put all their arguments in the reverse. That is how it sounded to me-- them making our arguments.

Baptist Health along with several large-scale production home builders paid for this ad.

No citizen group would write:" water is the bearer of life" nor would they write "moreover". A lawyer wrote this ad.

If developers wrote this, it is weird that they said: "We can no longer sit back as disgruntled voyeurs and watch our community be destroyed by special interest"...when they are a special interest: Developers.

Gimleteye&Geniusofdesiar,
I am a Friend of West Kendall. Thank you for identifying the confusion to the link to our FB page. It is under the name West Kendall and our email:
friendsof.westkendall@yahoo.com
Even though I personally appreciate a good conspiracy theory, this not one! Friends of West Kendall has started as cobbled group of home owners who desired a voice in the way our county is governed. Particularity when the decision are being made that degrade our lives and environment. Blogs like yours and the awakening Norman Braman has caused is the spark. 'For the people by the people'...lets not forget those words. We the people need to be heard. Will you Join us?

Never spend your money before you have earned it.

It may surprise many of you, but there are many developers opposed to moving UBD. Those with property inside the line don;t want to see their value diminished by new supply opening up. As a friend once told me, who wants to buy my existing home when they can purchase brand new somewhere else.

There are many developers that are working to bring value to property deep within the UBD. The problem comes in when, in all honesty, the NIMBYs fight any new development at all, let alone any increased density, near their area. You see this going on in many of the newer municipalities.

You can't have it both way, you need to build up or out. Prime samples are the Downtown Dadeland and Old Cuter in Cutler Bay fights. And heven forbid that anyone near Mercy hospital have to see any condos from their homes.

Thanks West Kendall...went to the Facebook page, surprised to see Lynda Bell on it since she voted for this application. Were did you get the money for the ad?

West Kendall said...

100% funded by the ordinary man(woman). Would you like to come visit our next neighborhood meeting?
No secret hand shake, no secret squirrel and/or decoder rings needed.
We are flattered that you think of us as professional writers, however, we would enjoy a professional like you writing for us! email us and let us know. Next meeting is Tuesday
19July 2011 at 1900hrs. Lynda Bell should be a Friend of West Kendall. Don't you agree? Friends sometimes make mistakes, its how you correct the mistakes that make you a True Friend of West Kendall.

Friends of West Kendall are dedicated to preserving our natural resources for today and future generations. Please join us on our journey to maintain and nurture our unique environment. ---

Not any environmentalist is listed as your members...I know most of them. As a group dedicated to clean water, I would think I would know at least one person...besides Lynda Bell, Jean Monestime and Daniel Shoer Roth.

Ah, so I think that the environmentalists should swarm this citizens group to ensure that they are about what they say they are about: quality of life, environment, etc. These newest members can also babysit the Lynda Bells of the membership. Hey, if this is their mission, they should be happy for this opportunity. Ad was good.

Jean approved the Cemex application along with Lynda.

I looked up West Kendall but cannot find you, can you please post the FB link? I found the one for community newspapers.

In regard to your next meeting, would you mind if your neighbors in Redland attended?

Thank you,
Pamela Gray

West Kendall, why aren't you registered on Sunbiz?

Bottom to Top:
SunBiz? why? a group email and facebook account dosen't require a Sunbiz account, does it? This is another attempt of Deep Pocketed Special Interest to suppress. The odd twists and turns of being a responsible citizen are exampled within this blog. We are a group, of individuals, dedicated to preserving a way of life that must be balanced with the finite natural resources. Have you changed your incandescent light bulbs to fluorescent? If you already have, perhaps, that makes you an environmentalist(we can discuss Mercury another time). Environmentalist is not a dirty word or a label of higher education. On 22April 1970 the famous 'Crying Indian' ad was aired. 41 years later we still weep with him and for him. Polarization of the individual environmental niches are NOT our purpose or intent. Rather it is a
COMMUNITY ALERT!
An Alert that regular Americans can take the time and make a difference. A MiamiDade taxpayer does have a voice. We need to speak loud and clear, in an informed and educated manner. No labels are necessary when the voices speak united in the cause, the unity of purpose speaks for itself. Let us wipe the tears and stop the insanity. When the Herald prints ads of this nature they identify who is sponsoring it. Usually a PAC or nonprofit is formed to collect money, not just a Facebook page.

West Kendall said...

Sorry about the double post!

Anonymous said...

West Kendall, your blog site states that you're a nonprofit. The State of FL requires all nonprofits to register with Sunbiz. The annual registration fee is only $61.25 - no doubt far less than the amount the full page Herald ad cost your organization. It's a 3rd degree felony if you don't file and solicit money for your nonprofit. Even my 100 member homeowner's association knows these rules - they've been on the books for a long time.

This is a county issue that can affect the environment and the future. Great ad. Unlike La Hacienda owner (Shoma Homes--Masoud Shojaee) has deep pockets for politians in the past (http://www.miaminewtimes.com/2005-04-14/news/who-is-masoud-shojaee/) and wonder if he is doing the same today.

Did you know Cemex has 1000 Acres just north of their current facility on Krome to mine? It was approved a couple of years ago unchallenged because there is no one half a mile around them to receive notice. They want things to go under the radar undetected. Kudos to Friends of West Kendall.

I have been wondering if Jane Walker is one of the Friends of West Kendall, she is a board member of the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations and is always advocating for not letting the farm land be taken away for any other uses, regardless of how it might benefit the greater good of our West Kendall Community. She never has her facts right, but she is a terrific "bucket stirrer", in trying to appeal to peoples emotions. The facts don't really matter to her. Her ideology of protecting the environment is so far right that it reminds me of a particular political party and it's views on conservative ideology too, while spinning the views of what is real, factual and what is just pure BS.

The best group that is the truest Friend of West Kendall is the Kendall Federation of Homeowner Associations, which has been the watch dog organization for homeowners throughout the Kendall area for over thirty years. Visit their website at www.kfha.org and learn about the terrific work they are involved with to "put unity in our community".

Jane Walker is part of the Kendall Federation you turkey. Agricultural land is important to Kendall, our county and the state. Contiguous acreage is necessary for agriculture to survive in Miami Dade County which makes her smarter than you. Don't malign someone you know so little about. Jane cares about her community. She cares about the communities' relationship with the well being of the bordering National Park (where our drinking water filters) and agriculture (one of our economic engines). That makes her a whole lot smarter than you -- you have a one dimensional view: people only. Sad really.

Why, thank...thank you you very much, G.o.D. (said Jane in her "Elvis" voice).
