Say Hello to Palmetto Bay Village Voice. By Geniusofdespair

Apparently Concerned Citizens of Old Cutler, Inc. is not very happy with Palmetto Bay Village Voice. Can't say that I believe the Voice's purpose: "To increase local government transparency and accountability through education and communication to promote active resident participation in our community." Gimme a break. I find it a bit odd that the guy who ran for Mayor and lost is on this Board. Even George W. Bush laid low after Obama was elected. What are all these people doing to help communication? Is it just limited to texting Fiore during Council meetings? Someone should throw out everyone with a cell phone during meetings in this Village. There are too many puppet masters. I am worried about Palmetto Bay and the mean-spirited factions. That damn school has torn the community apart.

Anyway here are the officers of Palmetto Bay Village Voice:

Can't we all get along?

You left out the part about Gene Flinn being a founding member. Is he in league with these guys?

Geniusofdespair said...

I would hope that Flinn is not involved with this group. I am not going to have a lot of speculation in the comments section. Can you offer suggestions on healing without attacks on either Shelly or Gene?

To take Gimlete's line and use it here for my own analysis:

Since Lynda Bell decided to camp in Palmetto Bay, the "Race to the Bottom" for that community seems to be on an accelerated pace.

England and Fiorre are just toxic. Their baggage & shenanigans have been aired on this blog during the 2010 municipal elections. In addition, those two combined have nothing on Vile Lynda Bell's pave over or rock mine everything or budget busting policy in Hudstead and now in MD.

The reason it's a race to the bottom, so to speak, is the majority of voters don't really look in to who they're voting in to office. So, we end up with very bad intentioned (for different reasons) people, reinventing themselves as do gooders, when they're are anything but.

Palmetto Bay voters, take your Village back! No CRA (England) and no high density/special interest development (carpetbagger Fiorre).

There's no attack on Shelley or Gene. The Herald reported on June 10th: "Palmetto Bay Village Voice is led by five board members including Peter England, who lost the mayoral race to Shelley Stanczyk by 81 votes. The 25 founding trustees include two other defeated mayoral candidates Jim Araiza and Dave Zisman, as well as former two-term mayor Eugene Flinn and former Village Councilman Paul Neidhart."

Flynn should stay out of the fray and let the dust settle in the Village. The board of this Voice group are disgruntled Republicans. What could be worse? Lynda Bell a happy Republican. They are probably all in league together.

I am not going to be part of the problem. I asked already to not make attacks on Eugene Flinn or the mayor. Can you say something without attacking either? Apparently very few of you can and that is not healing your village.

The quest for transparency by the Palmetto Bay Village Voice was begun through the Public Records Request by Omi Diaz and Todd Cooper (Board Members) under the name of their PR Business, Diaz & Cooper Advertising The firm of Diaz and Cooper requested the email addresses the Village has for their e-Currents publication. Flinn had a hissy fit when Grant Miller and Attorney Katz requested it and used it. He's out of office so now it's fair game I see. If this group is about transparency why are they using a business name to hide behind getting this list? The Village sent us all emails telling us who did it and she responded to our comments to them. Peter England is hiding behind Rick Cook as the supposed chair who until he retired from Gables Fire no one ever saw around before. The entire news article and TV interview was done by England. Also, if this is about education why are they preparing for a campaign? To me it just sounds like they are trying to tear Palmetto Bay apart some more and continue the campaign. Is this another Alvarez campaign? If you don't get what you want legitimately then disenfranchise the voters and take it. Palmer is just going to be their tool to accomplish what they want. Go to the website to see who all the members are. PalmettoBayVillageVoice.org

I have not seen any attacks from the Palmetto Bay Voice Group yet. The only attacks have come from Shelley and her group. It is nice to know their true feelings, even if they won't sign their names to the comments.

I was under the mistaken impression that Shelley thought this was a productive group, or can't we trust her to give an accurate quote to the Miami Herald:

Stanczyk is not a member of the group but agrees with its stated mission and its formation.

“It’s a great idea in terms of inclusiveness,” she said. “It raises the level of participation. Part of their focus will be to always have a member of their group at a meeting. That encourages dialog. It’s interesting that following our election we now have people who have become more involved in the process and that’s something I have always been a proponent of.”

I think Shelley needs to quit being paranoid, grow a thicker skin and move forward in a productive manner. All this PBVV group has done so far is be very active in supporting Carlos Gimenez for Miami-Dade County Mayor. The group recently set up a forum which brought well over 100 people out at 8:00 AM to hear both candidates for Mayor. Shelley attended this event. And perhaps, because of this event, I am pleased to see that Shelley has recently jumped on the Gimenez bandwagon.

I have never been asked to attend a CCOCI meeting. I am not sure if they even hold actual meetings. I would participate with that group as well if invited. People should be inclusive, not create their own splinter groups then complain when others gather in other groups.

This is not grade school. People should be reaching out and participating with each other and try to find common ground.

Healing is what's needed. However, the agenda and tool is at hand for this group. Using Flinn the way they are is just awful. He needs a place to be and he doesn't know where that is yet. Better for him to be active in an environmental group without these groupies and build his green name so that when the time comes he is unblemished. This group has already gotten the residents up in arms over the list hijacking. He will be wearing their colors forever otherwise. Flinn is a good man and did great things for Palmetto Bay and South Dade. He shouldn't go down in flames over these jokers.

One just has to wonder why are all these guys in the same room. Eugene is so freaking gullible that he is getting sucked into being a part of the gang.

Seriously, those guys in the village group spent all their time trying to get rid of Eugene and now they want to play nice? Nope. They are keeping an eye on him and certainly I can believe they are having private meetings without him...either on the phone or over coffee.

It really doesn't matter what Eugene thinks he is doing, the fact remains that he will be in the room with a bunch people who are not interested in anything except furthering their non-environmental stance and pro-development clan. He is gonna get sucker punched.

I don't believe that any group of activists ever are perfect, but I tell you that the history of this village group is not stellar. The folks of the ccoci evolved from the grass roots as true actvists. The village group has a long history of being on the wrong side things good for the county and community by representing values that are not anything more than tea party or development agendas. They are certainly the community organization of choice for lynda bell.

I am saddened that the combined power of both these groups are destroying a wonderful city. I am horrified that the village group is a cosmos of all that is wrong with Miami dade county. That group is one questionable wanna be after another --- all with very nasty connections outside Palmetto Bay.

Come on, Eugene, you need to rise above this shit. You need to be out of the loop and don't get splattered with crap from either side.

Flynn and Stanczyk:

Step away from the Republicans (Voice).

(as a non profit they CANNOT support a candidate Eugene, that is illegal). They can hold a forum.

EugeneFlinn said...

You are right, Anon above. The PBVV can hold a forum, which they did. The PBVV actually did not endorse Carlos Gimenez, but everyone is working hard to get Carlos Gimenez, a registered Republican, elected. There are many memebers of the PBVV listed with Shelley Stancyck, Patrick Fiore, Paul Neidhart and me on the Friends of Carlos Gimenz e-mails. That is being done through the Friends of Carlos Gimenez, friendsofcarlosgimenez.com - run by one of the board members of the PBVV, so it is indigenous for Shelley to participate with this group, but blast me for keeping a group moving forward in a productive manner.

Why is Flynn bashing Shelly on this blog? I thought you said no bashing.

Walt not from PB said...

I think both groups should disband.

The Christian family coalition has a right to exist-- it is a homophobic hate group run by an asshole named Anthony Verdugo. He wouldn't have any clout whatsoever if politicians didn't go there looking for endorsements. When running Eugene Flinn and Katy Sorenson would not go there. I applaud them for that. Albert Harum Alvarez did go and he did not see the harm in it. This time around the extremist Christian group endorsed Julio Robaina. My point? You lend credence to a group when you participate with it. Is the Voice a positive force in the community or was it formed with other motives? I would give it a wait and see... I am suspicious and it is hard to repair a reputation.

You're right about waiting. Will this group just be pushing a Palmer Trinity agenda? From the Board membership it looks that way. Does that mean former Mayor Flynn is a Palmer Trinity supporter if he is connected to the England group? Isn't the Ludivicci woman on this board also on the Palmer Trinity board? I think the Voice may be the Voice of the school, not the community.

First I got an email from Palmetto Bay telling me about the public records request for the village newsletter email list made by the company name of Diaz and Cooper. After that I got an email from Diaz and Cooper telling me that they requested the list for this group. I went to the Palmetto Bay Village Voice's website at PalmettoBayVillageVoice.com and found their Board membership list. The entire membership list or the list of those who have paid $100 to join (a friend of mine got a phone call from them asking him to join for $100) was not included on the website. Hiding behind a company name to get hold of an email list doesn’t really deliver the transparency they talk so strongly about. Sounds like a campaign brewing for what I don't know.

You need an organizational chart for the village group. To be honest, I don't live in the village but I do know the group because they all have ties with or are involved in stories with dubious people outside of the village...

From what I can see, the homeowners group does not have a strong outsider influence. They are not beholden to lobbyists and zoning attorneys of the county. I personally see nothing wrong with defending your residential community from business intrusion, which they are apparently doing.

They are the business intrusion!

Regarding the Palmetto Bay, I love your community. This is the little village that can and has. Perhaps it's time to reset the clocks and unify. Remember, if you become divided - you lose your strength, and there are a lot of people who would probably like that to happen. Your a family, so family first. If you fight, make up and get over it.

Which anonymous poster wants to talk about transparency between the groups and the residents? Article IV of the CCOCI corporate documents require that the directors are elected by the majority vote of the members. You can look it up on www.sunbiz.org. Who are the members and when have any of these votes taken place? No one who lives in Palmetto Bay has ever seen an invitation to a general membership meeting of this group. The list of corporate officers keeps on shrinking and the Concerned Citizens of Old Cutler, Inc, now appears to be a committee of the two corporate officers listed: Betty Pegram, 18121 SW 82 Avenue, Palmetto Bay, FL 33157 and Stanley P. Kaplan, who also serves as the registered agent. Kaplan uses his law office address of 19 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130. Did Joan Lindsay resign as president of CCOCI or did she not run for reelection? What corporate officer, if any accepted her resignation? Shouldn’t we ask the same question of the CCOCI board if we are concerned with the PBVV $100.00 dues? Where does CCOCI get the money to file corporate documents and fund the lawsuit against Palmer?

What about Save Our Palmetto Bay? Didn’t that non-profit illegally endorse in the last Palmetto Bay election? Hasn’t the CCOCI e-mail list been used for political purposes, including promoting candidates running for office in Palmetto Bay? Are the e-mail lists for Save Our Palmetto Bay and CCOCI one and the same? Inquiring minds want to see some transparency from CCOCI and Save Our Palmetto Bay as well.

This forum needs to have one set of standards and apply them fairly and equally to everyone and each organization if it is to have any credibility.

Transparency of government is the goal. That's great.
Sour grapes, not so great.
Palmetto Bay residents have a wonderful lifestyle and community of parks regardless of the organizations developing and conducting business within its village limits. Participation is also a good thing.
Perhaps activists on both sides of the aisle should spend a little more time listening to each other and a little less time throwing darts at each other. In a democratic society it is okay to disagree--perhaps folks should work on disagreeing in a more agreeable fashion?

Geniusofdespair said...

If transparency of government were the real goal it would be a good thing. Is that the real goal of all these group? It is something good to say, but what does that really mean? Nothing to me.

Now the Campaign for Carlos is over. What's going to happen with all the email addresses collected by friends of Carlos Gimenez.com friendsofcarlosgimenez.com? James Thomas pictured above ran the emails during the campaign and as you see is an important part of the group PalmettoBayVillageVoice.com. So did his participation in the campaign come with costs to the supporters of Carlos? and to the Village?
