To Fuel The Wealth of Speculators: What does the burning Everglades remind you of? by gimleteye

The last few days the acrid taste of burning Everglades has filled my mouth. The bad taste of charred Everglades reminds me that our state, Florida, is acting in bad faith, continuing to file appeals-- wasting precious time-- to fight the ruling by federal district court judge Alan Gold to establish the best and legal way to move Everglades restoration forward. The wasted time and the acrid smoke reminds me that in May the Everglades should not be burning. The burning Everglades reminds me that Florida, working on behalf of Big Sugar billionaires represented by Miami law firms like that that of name partner Ramon Rasco, chairman also of US Century Bank-- rated zero by banking analyst Bauer Financial--, will do anything but be held accountable to assessing the costs of pollution on polluters. The voters of Florida already decided this issue: that the polluters should pay. But 35,000 acres are burning instead as a reminder that Florida's future water supply and natural resources are being used to fuel the wealth of speculators.

It reminds me of everything that's going on at Jackson Memorial Hospital and that you're not paying an ounce of attention to it. It reminds me that unless someone finds a better chance of producing rain -other than the dancing and chanting the Native Americans engage in -- we are going to have this problem, every year.

Those that hold the gold, make the rules, write the history and get a seat in the front row. What we need are divergent voices. Perhaps, yes, we could use some Koch boys - but, hey, we need a few Howard Zinns in the mix to keep things honest.

Fires in the Everglades are part of the natural order.
Natures way of cleansing.
