Miami Beach-based senior correspondent for Time Magazine, Michael Grunwald, brings our attention to the latest report by Transportation for America: Dangerous by Design. Of the most dangerous metro areas in the United States for traffic fatalities involving pedestrians, the top four are in Florida. The "dumb growth" Grunwald derides is a frequent theme at Eyeonmiami. Since the Florida legisature and Gov. Rick Scott colluded to eliminate the state land use planning agency, DCA, count on more horrendous and life threatening traffic. In the idiocy of turning watersheds and wetlands into platted subdivisions benefiting campaign contributors, we are Number One. We'll hear the mayoral candidates views on that, if the mainstream media will ask the question.

This picture punctuates on what once was paradise . . .
I still remember when the cows left Miami Lakes and the development that followed. Herons could be seen by the dozens all disoriented and flocking down Red Road . . . I believe they are all gone now.
Um, the photo is from Key West -- note the "Southernmost Hotel" sign -- but it does show a chicken, which makes me think of East Little Havana.
