Can anyone tell us more about Cancio. Wasn't he a place holder Commissioner? I kind of remember, but am not sure.

Former Miami Dade County Commissioner Jose Pepe Cancio (appointed to fill vacancy of Miriam Alonso)

Oh Please not Cancio. Maybe as a commissioner but not as a mayor.

I still think Gimenez leads with knowledge base and desire to clean up county hall. I've seen him in action and he is about the most fiscally responsible person running. He won't rely on the crony system in place now. He is definitely worth my vote and I am glad he decided to run.

Cancio squandered his opportunity on the BCC. The anon can't remember because Cancio did nothing memorable.

Gimenez' son is a lobbyist and serves as a direct line to his father's office. He's no different than some of his friends on the commission. Cancio says he is running only as a placeholder who will trim the county budget but can a placeholder make any type of lasting change?

Agree with the Gimenez comment, this is the only serious candidate for consideration.

Anonymous don't be so sure about Gimenez. He's got stuff in his closet he'd like to keep there. And by the way, wasn't he the person responsible for giving away the store in retirement benefits when he served as city manager of Miami?

Ha ha Alan Rigerman is running against Steve Bovo. How ridiculous.

Not an impressive field to choose from. It would have been better to appoint a caretaker to serve until 12. Well, maybe, Maurice Ferre will show up before 5 PM!

And so the crud begins....

Going with the outsider, to go with a commissioner playing himself as the "no" candidate (like Regalado) won't change anything.

My family and I are voting Llorente. He's picking up steam in the West Chester/Belen voting block.

@ anonymous re: "don't be so sure about Gimenez...." He was NOT "responsible for giving away the store in retirement benefits"....that would have been Manny Diaz and Pete Hernandez.

like Llorente as well. not very sure about Gimenez...seems convenient that he tries to pass resolutions he knows will never pass. If he wants to be fiscally conservative he should lead by example, turn in the Mercedes and give up the car allowance for one!

Bovo & Rubio are literally tied at the hip - I went back to last year about the two of them on this blog. I think he may be ethically challenged (what else is new in Hialeah). For those who worked so hard to get Seijas out, please do not support Bovo.

Gimenez is going to get my vote, and my support for Mayor, without question. When other campaigns are slinging mud at him and making up rumors as they go along, he's probably more of a front runner than what's being reported by the Robaina squad.

I remember "placeholder Cancio". He did nothing. Isn't he tapped into the LBA? Never Hialeah Julio. My vote goes to Gimenez. He has been visable for inspection for years and he never did anything to piss me off. In fact, many times he and Sorenson were the only voices of reason when the others were being stupid/corrupt.

District 13 voters: DO NOT vote for Steve Bovo - he is very close and tight with Seijas...

New faces please!!!

I am voting for Carlos Gimenez. We need to get on board early and work hard to elect Carlos as our next mayor. I've worked with him. He is the most fiscally responsible person running. This race is too important not to participate. No excuses. Volunteer, donate, get the word out and vote for Carlos.

In an 11 member field, my desired positioning would be 2nd place. I think Gimenez is going to be ideally positioned if he gets 24% of the vote and 2nd place in the primary.

My prediction is: Robaina gets 30% in the primary and Gimenez gets 24%. But in the General Election, Gimenez gets the votes from everyone else who's candidates didn't move forward out of the primary, and wins 60-40.

Robaina's base support is strong enough to make him 1st in the primary, but not expansive enough for him to win a Countywide General Election.

Take it to the bank (no Hialeah pun intended)

Remind me again why we did the recall. For this slate!?!

Raul Martinez is backing Carlos Gimenez.
Julio Robaina, well it's Julio Robaina.
Im voting for Pepe Cancio. He is a place holder and a successful business man.
The other candidates, I do not believe have the "substance" to run a county, it's budget and hold their ground.

Carlos Gimenez was/is a fireman. When he was City Manager of Miami he gave the fire union a sweet contract that lead to Miami having the best paid firemen in the world.

Julio Robaina is looking strong.

There will be a mayoral candidates forum on 5/2 at Kendall Village (round building next to movie theater) in West Kendall hosted by KFHA. 7:00 PM.

I heard a rumor that Robaina's resignation is only effective the day before the election. Is that true? If so, is it legal?

Geniusofdespair said...

Julio Robaina could NEVER look strong. I would vote for any of the candidates before him.

Anonymous said...

The resignation can be effective the day before the next office would begin IF you file the irrevocable resignatrion timely which means prior to the FIRST day of qualifying; otherwise, the resignation has to be effective immediately. Why do these guys insist on playing around and heging their bets... time to be in or out, gentlemen.

Julio Robaina has raised over $600,000 to be Mayor of Miami-Dade County. At the same time he is being paid as the Mayor of Hialeah.

Robaina seems to know that pay and benefits to public sector employees has gotten out of control. Public sector Defined Benefit Pension plans with incredible payouts financed almost entirely by private sector workers who rarely get pensions for themselves is a recipe for bankruptcy.

Anonymous said...

@Hanna -- it's not a rumor, it's true ... Robaina gets to hold office & reap all the benefits until the day before the election. Clearly the laws are different in Hialeah...

living in the Belen area, I don't agree with Anon, that Llorente is the frontrunner. Most residents here are for Gimenez.

State Attorney Office should send out investigators to senior centers and ACLF to investigate the work of absentee ballot brokers linning folks for votes.

This election will be won in the AB vote. We need to keep an eye out for the fraud.

Voter turn out should be 17% to 20%, that will e another sad day in South Florida political history.

district 13 resident, voting for carlos amaro. the ONLY candidate to answer my call and answer my questions...

Anonymous said...

who is gabriel redfern? and why is she running?

Anonymous said...

Is Gabrielle a he or a she?

Anonymous said...

Beware of the absentee ballot scam. Please reach out to neighbors to get out the vote to dilute what we know will be going on in the dark recesses of the cesspool of county politics. Remember, in Dade County, anything goes (nursing homes and senior centers) and everybody knows (Lester Sola) but nobody does anything about it (Kathy Rundle).

Llorente is killing a telemundo poll of over 1,000 voters. 60 percent.

Anonymous said...

Lampert,a fireman, said to be the son of the City of Homestead building inspector... connect those dots

Anonymous said...

Llorente is an attorney and has never worked a day in his life as a lawyer; As a Representative, he never passed a single bill; He's never managed a budget of any magnitude, ...nothing qualifies him ....he's rediculous.

Geniusofdespair said...

Speaking of idiots: you wrote "Where do you think his elegance is" I assume you meant where is his allegiance.

He only has one pension that I know of. He does not ALWAYS vote in favor of his sons clients. If he did he would have been endorsed by the LBA, his son is a board member or something over there. Yes, I am not thrilled with some of Gimenez's connections but he has voted better than 11 other commissioners on most of the important issues.

Did any of these candidates support Alvarez remaining in office? As in No to recall. Rumor is Lampert, friend of Alvarez, lobbied for him to stay in office. If so, what is he thinking? We're stupid? Someone should ask him and others directly if they did. We are not going to vote for a like minded individuals after working so hard to remove Alvarez.
