What a disgrace your Commissioner is District 8. How could a majority of voters let this witch follow Katy Sorenson? This is Lynda Bell's second piece of legislation:

You and your readers can't get over the fact that Bell beat Flinn, Katy Sorenson's chosen successor. Maybe if Flinn ran a better campaign things would be different.
Her resolution is stuff and nonsense. The Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution does not allow a county or state to nullify a federal law. As I recall, a state or two tried that in the 1860's and it seems to have caused a bit of a ruckus.
The resolution will only serve as an expression of the sentiment of the Commission if she can muster 6 more votes. It will not change the law or its application in Florida. It is doubtful that it will get out of committee.
Find a paper sack and breathe into it until you stop hyperventilating.

I think District 8 Voter is still upset that Flinn did not hire Irene.
Too bad neither Alber Harum-Alvarez or Annette Taddeo did not run better campaigns. Too bad Alex Sink did not run a better campaign. Its too bad Joe Garcia failed to run a good campaign. Same for Gelber. Are you starting to see a trend here "District 8 Voter"?
Don;t discount the power of a resolution. It is a strong statement that will be used by the Republican congressional delegation to do their dirty work on the EPA while Bell handles the local dismantling of DERM.
It is ironic that Lynda Bell sought the endorsement of the Sierra Club. Do you think she advised them of her position on the EPA water quality standards? She was a mirror to whomever she faced.
Flinn, Taddeo, Harum-Alvarez, and all the others (especially Gelber) lost because they presented the truth. They ran on leadership platforms. Scott (didn't he say he would not cut education?), Rivera and especially Bell told different things to different people.
Its a shame the democratic party is dead in Dade County. It came out briefly for Annette then only focused on Sink, hurting through ignoring local candidates such as Dr. Soloman, Millie Herrera and Lisa Lesperance. Yes, the party expected the lower tier candidates to work to prop up the top of the ticket rather than working true grass roots and having a viable get out to vote campaign for all.
What is the future of Florida? FPL owns the sun, better go to a one-income family (assuming that you are a 'traditional family') so you can home school your children, and the disabled should just go ahead and die now. Give Bell and her ilk some time, we can kill off the disabled, children and the elderly with just a few glasses of new EPA/DERM nusance free Florida water. Our future water can be like peanut better. Would you prefer smooth or extra chunky.
Yea....Harum-Alverez was a good candidate and woudld have provided the environmental leadership sorely lacking on the County Commission.

Dingbat Bell does it again. I think voters in Dist. 8 who were hoodwinked by her now know why she was booted as Homestead Mayor after one term of two years! And, there was a lot of problems with the absentee ballots, so I really don't think she won fairly, if at all legally.
Bell was just a better chamelean than Flinn and the other candidates. The Putney interview was telling but too many didn't pick up on her and Flinn didn't go after her hard enough because he was being a gentleman.
I supported Flinn for the primary and against Bell. Harum Alvarez was too RTL for me, like Bell, and he was very much plugged in to the GOP, just not as much as Bell. He served on that Charrette for Dadeland (I don't remember the exact name) but I think that area is a mess and that entire group dropped the ball in that area, which he was a part of and voted with.
Taddeo is actually a very nice lady. I'm not sure why she decided to run for Commission and I think a lot of political handlers took her to the financial cleaners. I never thought she made a good candidate for any office, and letting Marin take her for the ride he did, doesn't show much common sense either.
But, back to the non environmental policy Bell's proposing, I can only hope the majority of the BCC knows better. Her anti DERM, Pro Rock Mining, Pro breaking through the UDB for the Speedway and claiming to be smaller government while supporting 8 1/2 sq mile (historically floods & FEMA has to bail them out) is quite funny and expensive to us taxpayers.
Her new visiting local businesses - well, that just a way to meet voters, nothing more, and on our tax payer dollars footing the bill. She's basically campaigning on County time with County funds - in my opinion.
Bell may not be as smart as Gene Flinn, but she wanted it more. She worked harder. And Flinn's consultant Keith Donner is an idiot. So there you have it. Bell is the commissioner and Flinn is back in private practice.
Once the people of District 8 get tired of her politics maybe they will recall her too. In the meantime, maybe some more progressive people should get out of their comfort zone and figure out how to get her to do the right thing!

If Flinn didn't insist on wasting millions of tax dollars on that Taj Mahal city building, he would be a county commissioner today. Hope it was worth it!

Larry, you have a convenient memory. How much tax dollars were spent by Lynda's for her Taj Mahal (which was never built) in Homestead to replace a City Hall they already had in place. It was actually more than Palmetto Bay spent on a their City Hall they never had needed!
And, to the post about Donner - I agree 100%. It seemed as if the Unions especially the UTD were running Flinn's campaign.

I care about the environment, and believe in responsible government more than the next person. But did it ever occur to you that the MAJORITY of people could really care less about your issues?

Larry- hardly. Palmetto. Bay had no city hall. The building complex was envisioned as a town-hall/center and transportation hub. It was to be a green building-- a model for the future, cheaper to run. Bell on the other hand was pushing for another city hall when they already had one, the land she purchased remains undeveloped. Taj my foot.

This resolution does indeed have an effect because it sets the County paid lobbyists on a mission to work to kill the clean water rule.
And M, you're right. No elected person gives a shit about the environment. For one, environmentalists are either a bunch of middle-income older people who just write letters and bitch on blogs (although it is rather cathartic), or they're really young and would rather protest on street corners and have sing-ins than go vote.
Environmentalists don't run for office anymore. At least not in Miami-Dade. They certainly don't contribute to campaigns in any meaningful way. And they don't sway public opinion outside of the Herald readership demographic. So why should pols care? Because the environmentalists are right and their moral argument should carry the day?! I wish that's all it took.
Sorry, guys. Lynda is a non-event. Just wait until she steps out of line and we can recall her.
