The new Mayor: Jim Cason or is there a runoff? It says on his website that he has 4 wonderful grandchildren...and he said a lot of other stuff. Go read his website if you are interested.

Do you need a majority to win or can it just be a plurality? Does anyone know?

After the election of Rick Scott, norhing surprises me, but I sure expect more of a mayoral figure than saying that he has "a lot of other stuff."

I said that not the candidate. And first commenter, I think you are right, there must be a runoff...

Slednick was a putz. I met him at a fundraiser. When I told him I worked from home, he wanted my name and address so he could report me to code enforcement. When told him I didn't live in Coral Gables, he said he didn't care, he wanted to report me anyway.

No runoff. Slesnick and Korge are out.

Sorry, Slesnick is gone becaause the Coral Gables Cubans united to vote for Carson because "he is anti-Castro"... so we must continue to thank the Cubans for electing Penelas, Alvares, Marco Rubio, Rick Scott and all the garbage that gets on their path and that smells anti-Castro! I would really like to get out of this community because the Cubans have made it a cesspool! And don't damn tell me that it's not true. I know that this is how it is because I happen to be Cuban!

no run off two incumbent mayors go down...thats a win for the good guys!

You are allowed to work from home if you aren't running a retail operation. That's crazy. What the hell is wrong with this country. Tell you what, we'll call code enforcement. Why don't you quit working and go on public assistance!

More singing. Is this guy Irish? You gotta love an Irishman. I almost spit my coffee out when I read how he first became familiar with Coral Gables when he was remodeling his house. What an understatement! SO, I am thinking that running for mayor might be his version of revenge. Seriously, folks, the album is sweet. I don't live in Coral Gables, but I couldn't resist.

First Anon after Genius: I'd report you too if you called me a putz.

You trolls certainly have a way with words.

I agree that the Coral Gables Cubans united to vote for Carson because "he is anti-Castro". We can never move forward when the public is concerned with only one issue, and fails to inform itself about other relevant issues. All you have to do is look at Cason's website, and see the endorsement of Robert Burr (with his many arrests for drug dealing) to see that Cason really doesn't know who's who in the Gables. Just hope he doesn't get "burr"ned by Burr the way so many others in this city have been.

That's right. Let's vote for Carson because of his geopolitical views, not his views on local issues. What utter stupidity.

Seriously, not to detract from Carson, because he may be a good guy. but I think you have to look at what he will bring to the job at hand, not his view on world politics. Get a clue.

Unfortunately, Slesnick got too smug and happy with his august role as city mayor. He and his wife and group of insiders will probably be replaced by another group, but I hope Jim Cason takes his time before getting his ego all puffed up. Why does it always happen? Vanity?

I dont care who is Mayor as long as that ultra dirtbag Gonzalo Sanabria didn't get a commission seat...

Mr. Cason,

We understand that you have done important things in your past and we respect you for your part in dealing with the USAID or the IMF or whom ever you had to work with in a world that we don't exactly understand. You seem like a decent guy and I have a good feeling about you. Therefore, here are some suggestions for your consideration:

1. The Biltmore plays by their own rules. The rule is, there are no rules with those guys. Just accept it and maybe explore the facilities. It great there and they might cut you a deal.

2. Trees are important.

3. Never under estimate the sincerity of historical preservationists. They will take you down.

4. Coral Gables Congregational moves to Maggie Valley in the summer. SO, if you are launching something and you need a lot of support, wait till October. I am not sure where the Presbyterians go. I think they mostly build churches in third world countries. The Congregationalists are a bit more fun.

5. Season tickets at the Miracle Theatre wouldn't hurt. If you have to pay, you have to pay. Hey, it's a recession.

6. The whole Christmas holiday thing gets a bit tense. Actually, we are hoping you will use your diplomatic skills to smooth that thing over.

(I can't think of any more...maybe others will fill in. All good fun....meant to get a chuckle out of you.)

Rosenblatt spent more than $179,000 and received 1775 votes - more than $100/vote. A pretty low ROI.

IMO..only reason he got elected was, he was the only one that was not a politician. People are just fed-up with politics.

Slesnick lost b/c he faced two well-funded, credible candidates, never expanded his base of long-time supporters. remember, he hasn't had a tough race since 2001. he also raised taxes, and he and his wife have made a lot of enemies. it was payback time for sure.

Cason won b/c he worked hard, met a ton of voters, not just cuban-americans or hispanics.

korge lost b/c his campaign was generally lame. i am NOT Chris Korge. taht's my brother! not an exiting guy. he also didn't work very hard.

rosenblatt spent a ton of $$$$ but ran a lame campaign. he's smug and swarmy. plus the guy's arrest, liens, etc. killed him. but, a lot of the chamber types and anglos stuck by him to the end. still another humiliating defeat for SAVE Dade, which is pretty much just a shell of its former self.

gonzalo sanabria just didn't connect with voters. he looks too sinister, and rosenblatt beat him up pretty good.

frank quesada won b.c of rosenblatt-sanabrtia attacking each other. he also worked very hard, had $$$, and is generally considered a decent guy with a decent resume.

there's the CG election in a nutshell.
