As the candidates kick their campaigns into high gear -- people of Miami Dade County -- do not consider Hialeah Julio (Robaina) to replace Carlos Alvarez, PLEASE. He would just be more of the same. I heard that Julio Robaina's pension after serving 15 years as councilman/mayor will be $150,000 every year. That is pretty generous. Let him collect it and fade away-- we need an above board, ethical candidate, which he is not.
As for County Commissioner, my neighbors in District 13, Miami Lakes and Hialeah, please standby and wait to see who Miami Voice endorses.

We may be polar opposites on the political spectrum but I beleive that we share a common cause and that is a Mayor who has ethics and integrity.

Miami Voice, aka Michael Pizzi? Have you seen the Francisco Alvarado YouTube interview? I think it might be better to see who PSN or Senator Graham endorses or someone from the district that is well.
"Keepo an Open Mind" Yet you bash Julio for pension payments without mentioning Carlos Gimenez's pensions or JC Bermudez having a park named after himself.
Julio as a Mayor has done something Alvarez didn't, stand up to the unions. Gimenez as a commissioner has also voted aganst generous appeasements to the unons so on this key issue both are pretty much on equal footing.
I for one will not discard Julio as far as my vote is concerned, I will wait and see how things develop.
As for District 13 I thank Vanessa Brito , Mimi Planas and Mr. Pizzi for their efforts, which I lent a hand to BUT I will make my own choice thank you, if it happens to coincide with theirs then great.
Keep in mind Vanessa is a budding political operative, Mimi a former candidate and Pizzi a consumate politician, Not Being Ctitcal just "Keeping My Eyes Wide Open."
Actually, Julio just gave the Hialeah Police Union a 12% increase, similar to the Alvarez 13% increase for the PBA there. He did what Alvarez did a year ago to create the budget gap, which in turn lead to higher taxes. All to keep the Police Union off his back during the race, but, in so doing, setting up Hialeah for the same gap!
Michael Pizzi is not Miami Voice.
He said the other night at a fundraiser that he would do a roll back to 2009 - Isn't a roll back what Alvarez did?
What else is he going to SAY? What does he DO? What has he DONE? That is a MUCH better predictor than what he has SAID.
On another Union contract, the Herald reported this very week that a State Panel that reviews Collective Bargaining Agreements said that Robaina's City Should have known the agreements were illegal. Illegal! And he should have known as Strong Mayor of Hialeah. Cut the general employees 30%, but, only cut the administration 3%. That is not leadership. One local blog found some documents pointing to Robaina and a settlement with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Allegations of investigations at the IRS, loan sharking, ponzi scheme. The guy has admited to charging 18% on mortgages (although there are those that say the 18% was on paper, the actual rate was 36%), and throwing his wife under the bus. You might regret giving a check at that fundraiser sooner than you think... He may have to face his mentor, turned enemy, that's right, Raul Martinez is going to jump in.
Raul Marinez for Mayor of Miami-Dade County? There you go! Alvarez will look like a choir boy in 6 months.
Robaina at least has the managerial experience needed to be strong mayor. Gimenez ran the City of Miami and stayed out of trouble but he didn't really address the structural budget problems.
This election will be interesting.
No it won't be interesting as long as some of you think Hialeah Julio is a viable choice. You might do well looking at the endorsements of others as your intellect appears to be compromised.
Let's give Carlos Gimenez a try. He is fiscally prudent and you can see from his voting record that he sides w/ the taxpayer. He knows all the losers in County Hall and can get them out. I've watched him on the Commission and he is always well prepared and knows the answers before he asks the questions. He is good at putting county directors in the hot seat because he knows their games. He knows how to read a budget, knows the departments, knows the finances, understands bond deals, county investments and has the courage to fire the dead wood in the upper echelon that Alvarez and Burgess allowed. Gimenez knows about compensation and he will start by reducing executive salarys, change the pay plan, negotiate with unions. I really think we need to focus on him and give him a chance. He can do what no outsider can do and will act swiftly. Robaina will be lost at sea in the County as well as Lloreno. Too much complexity and budget deadlines for next fiscal year are looming. We need to clean house and reform county exec. workforce in addition to charter reform. Comm. Gimenez will be a tremendous assist in these areas. Totally agree with you, Gimenez is the guy. And the anon who said that he did a good job, but didn't deal with the budget structural problems, you are off base with that. During his time, the City passed several financial stability Ordiances requiring a certain percentage of the ad valorem revenue to be left in reserve, and other safeguards, but, following adminstrators simply ignored them. He lowered the taxes, at the same time he increased reserves, and the actual service level was increased, even with less money. We don't need bigger government, we need better government, and more money doesn't necessarily mean services will increase. It is all about devering services efficiently. He is the perfect choice at this time of upheavel.
Carlos is inbed with Diaz De la Portilla's and the Red Light Camera gang, voted to make the petition process the nightmare it is today and spends his slush fund money withoutr a peep, so before you go erecting any statues for Saint Carlos take a closer look.
Commissioner Carlos Gimenez will be the right choices for Miami-Dade County Mayor. He was the right track record in the battle with the mammoth county bureaucratic system and is a excellent administrator.
Robaina is a crook - he said on Spanish radio that he did not support the Marlins stadium. He went in front of the Commissioners and begged them to approve the Marlins deal because the team would give him an academy. The stadium is almost done and the academy is no where to be found in the city of Hialeah.

Gimenez will have to overcome that he was a County Commissioner. That might not be so easy. It is a scarlet letter.
The people in Miami Lakes are hoping that Michael Pizzi runs for District 13 -- not because they want him to win, but because he'll have to resign to run for the Commission.
If you watch him on the Commission you will see he not made out of the same cloth as those other trouble makers. Watch archive Commission tapes on Miamidade.gov webcasts of County Commission meetings and subcommittee meetings of which he is a member. He is a proven leader and can clean up county hall better than no other candidate out there. We are running out of time and we need to safeguard the $$.

I will vote Llorente, Robaina, Uncle Luke or even write in Alvarez before I vote Gimenez. He is a disaster in the making.
Based off the financial disclosure, Gimenez has one pension, for 30 years of public service, that is less than Robaina's for 6.5 years of service as an elected mayor. Gimenez wins that comparison as well. The fact that this is even a debate is disturbing.
