Norman Braman's OTHER PAC Report and Mayor Alvarez's PAC Report. By Geniusofdespair

Yesterday I reported that Norman Braman put $300,000 into his PAC "Yes to Recall". Well his PAC, "People Who Want Honest Government" collected $258,500 since January 1st, most of it was from Norman Braman. absentee ballot maven David Custin is making a fortune on the recall. This PAC has collected three quarters of a million dollars since October.

It costs a lot of money to do a petition drive and mount a campaign for an election. The Hometown Democracy Group did a great job with the petition drive but they didn't have the money to mount the statewide campaign during the election. Too bad they didn't have a Norman Braman.

Citizens for Truth, Mayor Alvarez's PAC also raised a lot of dough this reporting period, $46,050. Some donors were: Dade County Fire Fighters Local 1403 gave $10,000, Clilnton, Boggio, Inc. (developers) gave $10,000, FPL gave $5,000 and Schuff Steel Co. out of Phoenix, Arizona gave $5,000 (why?).

Much of the Mayor's PAC money went out to people under the purpose of "Clerical". There were about 200 "Clerical" disbursements. Here is the meaning of clerical:

"Of or relating to clerks or office workers or their work."

I am sorry Mr. Mayor, that is not an okay 'purpose' in my book. Are they doing telephone banking? GOTV? Absentee ballot collection? Examining petitions? What the hell are all these people doing? Your use of "Clerical" is a cop-out. It makes it look like you have something to hide. I will be glad when this election is over.

I actually was going to sit out this recall, but after reading more & more of what I consider some serious "misdeeds" to put it nicely, I just went to vote to recall Alvarez and now feel a bit more cleansed.

Before you posted this PAC information, I literally spit out my coffee reading about how Alvarez is using transportation union workers to work the polls, while getting paid to actually do their real job. The same workers (or at least the admistration) who mis handled Fed funds for the same department!

There have been a lot of last straws with Alvarez. It's time for him to go and collect his double penion, along with Burgess. We can't afford him any longer on $400,000 plus per year and his serious negative impact on my taxpayer dollars!

Actually, I agree with you, but, I would go a step further. Depending on the investigation, and there will be an investigation, if it is found that Alvarez knew about this "allocation" of County resources in a clear attempt to misappropriate County resources for a private purpose, we need to go after both his pensions (probably would only be limited to his Mayoral pension, but, go for both). Same goes for Burgess. This happened to Don Warshaw at the City, when he took a 501(3)(c)'s money for a private purpose. There is a clause that the pension can be removed when acting in such a manner.

This is a PAC not a campaign report.

I think the comments are based off the CBS4 and Herald reports about the transit union folks who are getting paid, by us, to campaign for Alvarez, while, at the same time, part time workers are required to come in and cover their shifts.

Wait. If the transit workers have paid leave time accumulated, they can use it for any purpose, including working against the recall.

Also, if you think that the Mayor has misused his campaign funds, file a complaint with the Florida Elections Commission. They will investigate.

Did you read the memorandum?? I did. Says nothing about using paid leave that has accumulated. I am sorry to tell you this Unionst, but, your brothers and sisters at Transit have made your job a lot harder. Spanish radio is in an uproar over this as we speak. Simply put, it is wrong, and should not be tolerated. Get involved on your own time, not on the taxpayer's dime. All you have to do is watch Defede's report on this, and his interviews with the Transit Union folks out at the polling places to see what is going on here, and, if it isn't illegal, it most definately should be!

from what i see, the material is silent EITHER way on accumulated paid leave time ...
unionst is correct-- unless and until accum leave is explored and addressed to the negative, his exception is IMHO accurate
