In a debate at the LBA luncheon, 3 mayoral candidates made it clear that according to the Miami Herald:
On issues like the Urban Development Boundary, which limits large-scale development along the western and southern reaches of the county, none of the candidates would rule out moving the sensitive line in the future...
Hialeah Julio, the Herald has an expose on his ties to the ponzi schemer Luis Perez today and Robaina's alleged payments to him.

Gimenez is the most competent among the three of them. But, he did vote to approve Krome Gold saying something to the effect that he like the "ranch community", this was after Moss clearly stated the application was basically Rock mining, because the houses would be built long after they dug out the lakes. He also voted to approve the Homestead Speedway expansion outside the UDB. In fact, the entire Commission approved this one, at the urging of Bell & Moss, with the exception of Edmunson, who voted no on the application.
Hialeah Julio Robaina - well, I don't know anyone who supports him, but then again, I don't speak Spanish.
Llorente is one I'd be worried about. If I remember, wasn't he Alvarez's pick? He's too inexperienced to handle the County Budget and run County Hall as a strong mayor.
If the election were today, I'd actually throw my vote away to Luther Campbell so I can get some comic relief from all the County Hall BS.
Maybe I should take another look at Audrey Edmunson. Is she coming around from being Natacha's lackey and making good decisions on her own? She was one of the unreformable majority. Maybe she is reformable?
What do you think they would say at an Latin Builder's Association luncheon?
Miss Alvarez yet? He held the line!
Sorry, Genius, there are no
"reformable"ones. The interests of the people cannot compete against the interests of the developers. Unfortunately, everyone has a price, others might be higher, but the developers
"will meet whatever price they have to" in order to accomplish what they must -- remember "the means justify the end.". Watch out for Llorente, he's one of them, NO MATTER WHAT HE MIGHT SAY. I've been inside the monster's breast, and I know what I'm saying. It all goes far deeper than you think.
Oh I think it is plenty deep!
I agree with the anon a couple of lines above. What is a tax increase versus holding the line. Alvarez was a proven commodity. Its all over. We won;t have a mayor that holds the line, but then again, so what, as we do not have the 5 votes to uphold a veto.
Thank you Brahman. How many of your caddies and BMWs are hybrids?
I think when the ads start running about Hialeah Julio supporting the Marlins funding showing him speaking at the BCC, and then a tape of him supporting moving the UDB line, then copies of the investigation in to the Ponzi scheme, I cannot imagine anyone voting for him, except for those who keep putting him in as Mayor of Hialeah, where he belongs.
The same people who voted Alvarez in and then out are exactly the people who are going to vote for Robaina. Remember we did vote a crook into the Gov's mansion,
Stop defending Alvarez the only one he could beat in a Miami dade County election is Fidel Castro and that would be by a razor thin margin.
The recall only proves that the voters want to hurt politicians. Both Seijas and Alvarez would probably beat any opponents put up against him one on one. Alvarez beat the entire downtown establishment to get elected and I wonder who Brahman had his money on back them. Alvarez was truly independents (call it disconnected and aloof if you prefer). I am sure that the establishment has been biding their time to fix this Alvarez problem. And yes, Brahman is the establishment. When have you ever seen him stand with any of us, the unwashed masses, on any issues important to us. Alvarez was important to him, Vanessa Brito simply was cleaver enough to ride his draft, any, if you recall (no pun intended), Brahman never offered so much as a crumb to the anti-Seijas recall forces. Curious, don't you think? Seijas voted for the tax increase as well. Was it Brahman's ego or simply part of the establishment fraternity?
Anyone on any ballot verses only yes or no would receive a no vote. Funny yes, but this is why we have a lack of leaders and why we have the Scotts, Riveras and Bells in office. They simply play the mirror cards. I bet all would lose recall votes today.
Voters are going to get what the deserve. I can afford to send my children to private school, but choose not to. Scott and the Rs who have run this state since JEB (how long has that been?) may finally drive us to the private schools. I will face higher private school prices as the thundering herd will drive the market prices up, so those of you with two jobs to pay private tuition better find a third job for the market increases.
Not true, 2 anons above. Fidel Castro would win the election. Next step would be no one would admit voting for him. That would be followed by grumbling people seeking a recall, but expecting someone else to shoulder the burden.
No one would ever unseat Fidel in an election.
Wait, isn't that what actually happened in Cuba?
David Rivera and Lynda Bell - American Fidel Castros
Former Miami Dade Commissioner Katy Sorenson should throw her hat in the ring. Promise to do it only for a year, then do such a great job, we'll make her change her mind.
Llorente is the biggest joke of them all. How can he even be running for Mayor? Didn’t he just spend 8 years in Tallahassee talking about Steroid use and chasing girls? Now he claims he wants to be the next alcalde.
How many bills did he sponsor that pass in eight years?
The last 2 anon posters are for sure from Hialeah. Guess who they support for Mayor. They are getting scared of Llorente and are attacking him. Interesting spin.
I will vote for the candidate who most wants to abolish the UDB and puts the rights of the individual over the rights of the self-appointed do gooders.
People have been ruined financially with that heinous attack on property rights know as the UDB
Doesnt Gimenez have to resign if he's started debating and campaigning
Heinous attack on property rights? You're an idiot. When you buy your property you buy it with the rights it has not the rights you want... Not for future rights...Not for rights that lobbyists and campaign contributions can garner you. You are not entitled to do whatever you want with property. Property comes with encumberences such as zoning, deed restrictions and whatever else. Don't buy the friggin' property on the wrong side of the UDB if you don't like the rules. You property rights people are so loathsome, maybe you aren't spending enough bribing county commissioners. Well guess what you will get your way now because we don't have a mayor candidate who cares enough.
No Gimenez has to resign before he qualifies. He has not qualified yet.
They have 5 acre zoning on the other side of the UDB. It is not as if the property has no value. This guy wants better zoning so he can make a killing. Selfish bastard. Too bad their isn't a candidate that cares as much as our former mayor.
Thanks GOD.
Take a look at this what a circus:
http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/03/27/2137042/gimenez-kill-two-amendments-on.html
Just because there are laws present controlling what you can do with your property doesn't mean that your rights are violated by them when you purchase it.
If the Commission was to ban free speech does that mean you have no right once you arrive in the county?
That is an analogy that makes no sense whatsoever.
Some of you think it is great sport to challenge me and Gimleteye on the smallest details. It is friggin' annoying.
If you don't like what we write don't read us. Where is the gun to your head? There will come a time when we will follow suit with Coconut Grove Grapevine and BAN all comments. If you can't be civil we don't want you here. And don't trash candidates running. That is our job. Support the ones you like instead. Send out a mailer if you want to talk trash.
"I will vote for the candidate who most wants to abolish the UDB ... heinous attack on property rights know as the UDB"
If you want to defend property rights, then I think I am going to open a used car lot across the street from your house. They do that from where I use to live (New Hampshire "Live Free or Die") and it is a disaster. Then I am going to buy the house next to you and apply for land use so I can build a high density, low income housing apartment building. Hope you don't mind.
In Dade County - you can't let your grass grow more than 11, you can't drill for oil in your back yard, you can't raise lamas in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Neither can you put your car on blocks or make a lot of noise after 10:30. Technically you shouldn't park your car on the street out in front of your house. You can't build without a permit or cut your trees down more than 15% or so. You have no rights, Anthony. Climb out from under your rock and stop using that stupid, stupid argument like a half-assed Libertarian who wants to use that rhetoric when it suits you.
If you want massive land rights, buy 3,000 acres in Montana, you idiot.
Libertarians scare those who want to tell others how to live. They can't argue with us because logic is on our side.
Go ahead and build your used car lot across the street from my house. You will be out of business in 3 months. You see the free market decides what gets built where and living on a narrow suburban street pretty much guarantees no used car lots.
I wish there was oil on my land though. I would drill and take part of the proceeds to fight you NIMBYS all the way to the supreme court..all the while making bags of $$$
You couldn't drill, even if you wanted to you moron. That was my point and you obviously missed it. You are right about the car lot. I think it should be a junk yard. I will just EBay instead of waiting for traffic. That will be fine.
What makes you think I am a NIMBY, by the way?
