Carlos Gimenez On The Campaign Trail. Guest Blog by Palmetto Bay Resident

Miami-Dade County mayoral candidate Carlos Gimenez made a campaign stop in Palmetto Bay last week. He and his wife were warmly greeted by the crowd and in return, he was undoubtedly the funniest that I have seen him. The man can smile when he doesn’t have a dais in front of him!

Upon questioning, the resounding theme of Carlos’ thought on government was getting rid of the “Scandal of the Day” which seems to rock the political infrastructure in Miami Dade on a frequent basis. He reiterated that he is conservative with public money and he really wants to hold the line on taxes. Carlos also pointed out that too often the people working in government offices and the politicians, as well, forget that they work for the people and not the other way around. Yah think?

What was the take-away from the event? That he is in it for the long haul. He says that he will run for mayor no matter when the election is. I think we could use some fiscal responsibility in our county and Carlos claims he can fit that bill.

The only good thing about a possible recall of the Mayor is that Carlos will have to resign from the commission to run for Mayor.

I like the other Palmetto Bay resident better.

Obviously "another Palmetto Bay Resident" is one of those Lynda Bell supporters who is looking to continue to pay off her support from Comm Seijas (VNS). Jim? Patrick? Gus? Anyone of you want to fess up? The payback is in support for the Hialeah faction - Mayor Julio Robaina. No one could possibly put Julio in Carlos league for integrity. Only rationale is that they are a hard R (Carlos is an R) who cares only for how far to the right the R is. These are the same people who voted for Scott/Rivera/Bell, a/k/a the politically unholy trinity.

Hey does Cody practice criminal law? If so, let's hope he is advising Rivera in all the investigations.

Holding the line on taxes isn't everything. Ask the mayor to be when we're going to get our needed fire station on this (east) side of the city. My neighbor's house burned to the ground a few weeks ago.

If given the choice, I would pick JC Bermudez from Doral.

Let's be honest they poll and focus on whatever polls tell them and that is what they talk about. Gimenez however has shown us fiscal conservative behavior. He is a known not an empty suit.

JC Bermudez? So he can rename the Steven P Clark center after himself, like he named that park in Doral. JC sure has the ego but he woon't have the votes.

He is known as a bag of FARTS. No one on this commission is fit to serve as Mayor. I will be voting no to recall Alvarez and then go with the outsider in Marcelo Llorente.

I worked with Gimenez, I belive what he said is true.

He has my vote

Where can we volunteer for his campaign?

Carlos Gimenez is a gifted administrator and a talented public servant. He is a fiscal conservative with a heart who listens.

As Miami Fire Chief, Miami City Manager, and Miami-Dade County Commissioner, he has unparalleled public experience; the depth and breadth of which is rarely seen - anywhere. His ethical record is flawless.

If you want experience, fiscal prudence, vision, and ethics; this is the candidate of choice.

Gimenez is rarely seen is correct over on Fairchild Blvd and in South Miami Park.........

As someone who resides in Carlos Gimenez's district, I have met Carlos several times and occasionally watch the county commission meetings on TV. He is both friendly and forthright, and deliberates in a thoughtful manner. I appreciate how he pokes and prods county staff to gain a better understanding of budget issues. Lots of times, it seems pretty obvious that he, George Burgess and Burgess's financial person, Jennifer Glazer-Moon, are the only ones in the Commision chamber with any grasp at all of important financial matters. Voters who are sick and tired of County Commission ineptitude should be careful not to tar Carlos with the same brush as some of his more nefarious colleagues.

A REDLANDER RESIDENT SAYS....

With Seijas recalled, maybe Katy
SORENSON would step-up again and run fot Mayor and bring back some
much needed civility. Hope she
would consider despite her longings

From the current known Mayoral Candidates, Gimenez has my support. It's not because I think he'd make the best Mayor, it's because out of the current Candidates, he'd be the best pick.

I'm not impressed with his Commission Voting record at all.

While the Budget in our County right now is probably one of the top issues, which I'm confident Gimenez will handle, it's not the only issue on my mind. He's proven to be very tough, but is the Commission going to work with him? That's where I have concerns as well.

I bet he can tell you how to contribute to the campaign too... ;)

At least Carlos isn't wheeling and dealing with another "career" on the side while sitting on the commission, like so many others do on there. It keeps him from being beholden to his bosses and his boss' buddies.

He has his pension, the county benefits and his wife works--that allows him to be a full time commissioner when he is needed.

That is certainly better than commissioners who have other things happening... Like JESICA, the Y, the "Consulting" gigs, Optimist club and gosh-knows what else...

obviously this blog and followers have no "Common Sense Now" this blog and followers have NEVER endorsed a winning candidate.

We need Gimenez. He has the guts to reform a badly damaged county admin. There are county administrators who are in DROP and will be leaving with tremendously big payouts and sinfully big pensions. AD Time for professional staff in the County should be investigated since they are not supposed to receive it on an hour to hour basis. Directors may approved it if executive staff works late during budget hearings but not if you work over 8 hours on a daily basis. We need Gimenez to look at all county administrators in DROP who have saved up all of their time to bulk up their pensions and who use AD time on a regular basis (week to week) in order to preserve their time. AD time needs to be abolished since it is abused by these administrators. Check county department's HR divisions and see who keeps AD time for their bosses and look at internal time sheets. Most of these time wasters sit around and gossip under the noses of their employees when they should be working.

What EXACTLY is DROP? I've been unable to locate details of this program.

DROP is deferred retirement option program.
