Beastly - Palmetto Bay Resident Alex Flinn's Book Made into Movie. By Geniusofdespair

Former Palmetto Bay Mayor and former candidate for district 8, Eugene Flinn, has an extraordinary family; Two smart and beautiful daughters (Meredith and Katherine) and a talented wife, who was featured in a two page spread in the Miami Herald yesterday (another Herald installment is here on line.) The Flinn's even have an exceptional dog, Ginger, that I featured in one of my posts.

Alex Flinn is an author of books for teens. One of her novels, made into a movie, is being released next week - "Beastly". It is starring two teen heartthrobs so I expect it will be a hit. The Miami Herald said about the movie:

Filmed last year in Montreal, Beastly stars Alex Pettyfer ( I Am Number Four) as Kyle, a cocky high school kid who is cursed with disfigurement after tormenting a girl about her looks. Vanessa Hudgens ( High School Musical) is Lindy, who has the power to break the spell with her love. Neil Patrick Harris and Mary-Kate Olsen costar.

Director and screenwriter Daniel Barnz said two things about Flinn’s book drew him to the project.

“I loved the idea of telling a modern day version of Beauty and the Beast, and her concept of putting it in high school was quite brilliant,” he said in a telephone interview.

The family was in Hollywood for the premiere this weekend, see photo above -- Someone get the family a decent camera please, like the one that took this picture below:

I have to talk to Alex, I write every day for free. She has a better system, write every day for money.

Young adult is the only fiction market that is open to new writers right now. Find a classic story and a variety of teenage angst and do a new riff on it.

Cody, don't bother my readers. You could have refrained from posting on a Flinn post after the resign to run fiasco. No one is required to sign their name here.

Before districts, the only voices heard by the Commission were lobbyist Steve Ross and Annie Ackerman's Condo Commandos. Both the Black and Hispanic communities were shut out of the process. A federal district judge, 2 federal circuit court appellate panels, and the US Supreme Court agreed the old system violated the Voting Right Act and discriminated against Black and Hispanic voters. So, Anonymous, you won't ever hear me apologizing for my part in ending the at-large election system. What have you done besides complain?

It looks like it will be a great movie, but I heard it was supposed to be released in the spring of 2010. Not sure why it has been delayed a year.

Hey Steve Cody - Nice amateur hour lawyering in your Seijas litigation. I witnessed your piss poor job. Loser!

Steve Cody is a mess. He sues Flinn and then wants to act like they are friends. What a screwed up putz. Cody should just change his party registration and go away. Can't you delete his posts Genius? We have no use for him here. He obviously has no friends on the other side.

The movie was delayed until spring releases because of kids spring break season. Also, movies are released when they can shine without going up against other strong movies.

Howard Cohen did a great write up about Alex and the book/movie in the Herald. I had the pleasure of meeting her and the rest of the family during the Dist. 8 campaign.

I wish her all the continued success.

Posters, please. This post is about Alex Flinn, not Steve Cody. I do not think that the poster listed as "Steve Cody" is the actual Cody. The real Stephen and his wife know better than to pretend that they are friends with Alex. Let's not pollute this outstanding blog story by paying any attention to a community pariah such as Cody. I am sure that Cody, who considers himself as a writer (he is delusional), is comforted by the choices he has made for himself and his family in hanging with pigs Seijas and Bell. He has made his bed (or is it a pen) and it is time for him to lie/wallow in it. No one in the community knows who he is, and those few who do, do not care about him. He is not exactly a PTA volunteer type.

That being said, I am looking forward to the movie.

Thank you Alex for the wonderful books and now a movie. We wish you continued success in the future.
