Here is an explanation of the resign-to-run law:
The “resign-to-run law” essentially prohibits an elected or appointed “officer” from qualifying as a candidate for another state, district, county or municipal public office if the terms or any part of the terms overlap with each other if the person did not resign from the office the person presently holds. (Section 99.012(3), Florida Statutes.)
1. If an officer must resign under the “resign-to-run” law, when must the officer resign and when must the resignation take effect?
The resignation must be submitted in writing at least 10 days prior to the first day of qualifying for the office the person intends to seek. (Section 99.012(3)(c), Florida Statutes.) (The qualifying dates for elections to particular offices can be obtained from the county supervisor of elections office.)
The resignation must take effect no later than the earlier of the following dates:
1. The date the officer would take office, if elected; or
2. The date the officer’s successor is required to take office.
(Section 99.012(3)(d), Florida Statutes.)

This will have a huge effect on the political landscape in Miami- Dade County. If all of the candidates that are talking about running do run, there will be a bunch of open seats streching from Miami to Tallahassee. Get ready folks cause the Elections Department is going to be busy for quite a while. And yes, the Taxpayers will be footing the bills.
Thanks Norman!
This law was not inforced by the court in Flinn or Sandra Ruiz case, why will be now??
Because they were term-limited. There are not term limits on Hialeah or the County Commission. It will be enforced.
Gimenez was being coy at the KFHA meeting the other night about whether he was running or not. Sosa and Martinez keep pretending to run, too. In the end, none of these chickenshits will give up their little districts.
Gimenez is running last anon.
If you file your resignation letter ten days prior to the first qualifying date for the new office election, then you can remain in office until the time you would take the new office. If you file anytime after that, you have to leave office immediately. Flinn was entirely different, the old office and new never overlaped.
America TeVe did an online poll last night on who viewers would elect for Mayor in 2012.
The choices were Carlos Gimenez, Marcelo Llorente, Joe Martinez, Raul Martinez and Julio Robaina.
Robaina - 35.44%
Llorente - 35.14%
R. Martinez - 16.22%
Gimenez - 6.01%
J. Martinez - 5.11%
No mention of how many voted.
The law is a good one as it cleans our ego-driven non-performers, and gives the voters a new start. . .
Mambi Watch --- that is depressing.
That is not a scientific poll, and, the channel is tied to Ana Whatshername, who is running Robaina's campaign. I have seen the latest scientific numbers. Those look mighty fine.
