Miami Dade County Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz was honored by the Minority Chamber of Commerce as “Miami-Dade Commissioner of the Decade” at the organization’s Awards Banquet on Thursday, November 18.
Commissioner of the Decade? You can't see me but I am shaking my head in disbelief but what more could I expect from a Chamber of Commerce.
He is pictured with his date, or is he clutching his Chamber Award? Does it matter which it is?
Jackie Bueno Sousa wrote about Pepe Diaz today in the Miami Herald. Read it, not because Eye On Miami is mentioned in the column, she is actually on target.

I have a feeling the Barf Meter is going to be off the scales this year!

I read the stupidest thing on the County website yesterday. Bell gave out a whopping "10" turkey dinners to people in Dist 8 - wow! But, what was funny, is that it was a photo op with the Dolphins at whatever they're calling the Stadium now, Pepe le Pew was there too, and I was incredibly disappointed to see Gimenez.
I don't think I'll support Gimenez for Mayor. His voting record is "okay", better than most on the commission. He did approve Krome Gold though, thinking "estate homes would be great in the area" - really? West of Krome in the middle of no where land outside the UDB with a clear clause stating they needed to dig up all the fill (rock mining) 1st!
Hey, Bell, by the way, Dist. 8 is not in Miami Gardens - pls. look at the Dist map in case you cannot remember. And, Pepe just cannot help himself in any photo op anywhere! How did those "10" family's get all the way from South Dade to the Stadium? For what they cost, they could have bought their own dinners!
You should be writing blogs for us, not just comments!
This guy makes me laugh. He was on Spanish radio WQBA-1140am defending his record against this "attack". When a live caller confronted him about his record of voting for the stadium, the tunnel and his lack of ethics, he said: "I know we all want to bring out the negartives. But we also need to look at the positives...I know I've built transparency during my time at the Commission." haha. Quite funny.
I don't understand the first poster's issue with Gimenez being at an event where a local team was giving away meals to needy residents. I am disappointed with your disappointment. It just seems a little nit-picky, and I guess your not a fan of the Dolphins. His voting record is "okay". Well, that is a matter of opinion, and I totally disagree with you. He has been 100% on the issues that are important to me. The CITT, the Marlins Stadium, 99% of the UDB votes (and I actually didn't have a problem with the Gold Krome Application, should have been within the UDB to begin with), voting against the salary increases at the County, voted against the tax increases, etc. etc. etc. By the way, the Mayor's job has more to do with the actual management of the County, and less to do with voting (he did do a great job while managing the City of Miami). It is true, voting on agenda items will play a role, and, since he is not supportive of the unreformable majority's agenda, some say that they will just block him from bringing positive change to the County. Those folks ignore one major power that the current mayor has rarely invoked in his tenure. Remember, if you have a good person in the Mayor's seat, that blunts the effect of the unreformable majority. Why, the power of the veto, which Alvarez rarely has used. That would mean that Gimenez only needs a core of 1/3 of the Commission to kill bad legislation, or pass good legislation. A great example would be to actually use the PTP money for the reasons that we passed it into law all those years ago, and not as a hidden tax. There is the vote on the marlins stadium, that would have died on the financing with a veto (forget the supermajority vote on the no bid contrat).
To the last anon with the rather long post defending Gimenez and development/rock mining outside the UDB; when the time comes, I will comment on your comments!
In regard to le Pew, he's an endless pot of gold for some! Barf
KROME GOLD SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WITHIN THE UDB LINE YOU ARE VERY WRONG ON THAT ASSESSMENT reader two above.
I guess that every UDB application is without merit...
Oh, and I didn't really spend much time defending the UDB vote on that one... But, it was one of about 16 that have come up. One out of 16 is not a bad ratio, even if you disagree with the one yes vote, especially when you consider that the ailments of the County have little to do with the UDB, and more to do with actual efficient, effective, transparent and open governance.
Guess who was named "Citizen of the Decade" at the same Minority Chamber of Commerce event? None other than everyone's favorite signature examiner, Harvey Ruvin. Check out the flyer here.
Krome Gold is far from the line. It is a rock mining issue not a UDB move. You have it all screwed up. They were not trying to change density. You snitty person are confused and I was correcting you:
you said...
(and I actually didn't have a problem with the Gold Krome Application, should have been within the UDB to begin with),
NO YOU ARE WRONG IT IS A LEAP FROG AND IT WASN'T APPLYING FOR A UDB CHANGE. You have to be contiguous to the line to get a move...the property isn't. This was not about the UDB line.
He should be pictured with snake oil not a snake.
I seem to remember a story in the Miami Herald a few years back. They were interviewing one of Pepe's past employers and one of the two brothers, now both covicted criminals said something like this about Pepe Diaz, we gave him a good paying job so he would remain honest and a good respected elected offical. Great, even if both brothers are convicted and I think doing time.
So his last employer are in jail and now he is working for a company that is doing alot of work at the airport. Good job Pepe, I'm waiting for that day to come when I see you on TV in handcuffs.
There is no way that is Pepe's body in that photo. Yes, he has that tiny mustachioed head, but his body is so fat that even Richard Simmons can't stop from laughing.
It is not his body, but it is his snake.
