The only bright spot in the election: Dorrin Rolle is gone. By Geniusofdespair

It is late the results are not final but it looks like Jean Monestime beat out Dorrin Rolle. Looks like Lynda Bell has won in District 8. She ran as a Republican in a non-partisan race and it worked. She even did Republican robocalls. The Democratic backlash took down so many good candidates like Flinn, Gelber and Sink. Help me think of a nickname for Lynda Bell, I need to be amused.

It is after midnight and all the precincts are still not in but Bell is up by 400. Maybe she could still lose -- one can only hope.

We only have to wait a year, then we can recall her. Sorenson's raising taxes hurt Flynn's Chances. Too bad.

It is almost 1 am and elections hasn't updated their website since 11:25. What the hell are they doing for the past hour and a half???

Lynda Bell cheated by running as a Republican in a non-partisan race, What are the penalties? We may find out after the recount.

The fat lady has not sung yet.

Bell was on the Republican slate. She also did a robo-call, identifying herself as the "only Republican in the race."

Some people on the Flinn campaign were such hard core Dem's, they hurt him. This was going to be a GOP year, because people are jobless and mad, not because they love the GOP! Bell rode that wave and the Dem's were handing out slips of paper with their straight Dem slate and Gene was on the bottom of it, which they should not have done.

Bell exploited that and won. If the Dem's would have just backed off and let Flinn be a non partisian, Bell may not have gotten so much traction in the end.

I'm glad Katy Edwards lost. She's like Bell, just a turn coat. She was a Republican and about 50 lbs heavier than she is today. Then she turned Dem and lost half her body weight, which made her a bigger nightmare in a thinner package.

Bell doesn't deserve this seat and I have zero confidence that she'll do anything to promote the environment or "create jobs". I can only hope Moss & the rest of the Commission keep her in her place and save Dist. 8, which we're now screwed!

1) Jean "You done good!"
2) I hope a viable candidate runs agains VNS and the others (except Moss, which I hope they don't recall - especially now, we need him more than ever to help Dist. 8
3) I'm patient, I can wait a year before we can recall Bell because she'll screw this up so badly, no one will be able to save her - not even the GOP!

With Bell there you can forget about term limits or any ethics reforms. Anyone with a Flinn yard sign better be very afraid. Wayne Rosen and Judy Waldman are going to have to enter the witness protection program. Mark my words, she will have Hmestead tied in knots by next Friday trying to set up her mini me, Wendy Lobos, as the next Mayor.

Looking further down the road. If the Mayor is recalled, and Gimenez jumps in to the race, his seat would likely be back-filled by Lopez-Cantera.

Now you will have lost 2 "Hold the Line-esque" Commissioners in Sorenson and Gimenez, and replaced them more Developer-friendly commissioners.

Then, if Hialeah Robaina beats Gimenez and becomes the next Mayor... LOOK OUT UDB! We're paving all the way Marco Island.

All those big$ folks sitting on their worthless Ag-land outside the UDB are dancing a little Jig this morning.

Hmmmmmm

To all readers who proposed as a nickname "commissioner" you lose. Not in the mood...deleted you. I want a real name not some name of respect. The voters in this district gave in to the will of the vile one, I won't.

It is not as if Gene was not warned. He never had an opponent as driven and willing to do whatever it took to win. He had the republican undercurrent against him, the gender thing to battle and her "outsider" story, uh, fairy tale, was hard to beat. Teh nice ladies who helped him were not suited to take on the Bell machine of soccer moms, right wingers and evangelicals. Expect some tirades that are a mix of crazy Souto rambling and Seijas nasty. In short, Bell will fit right in. The days of the Greer and Sorensen coalition to win elections is over in favor of Palinesque themes.

Barf.

I am overwhelmed by the fact that bell slid into office using illegal signs, lies and the republican slate.

If a politician starts their elected career with lies and knowingly conducts illegal campaign activities, then we can not expect anything more in their public service.

I am afraid for county and our state.

The loudest victory of the night - the new County Comm. from District 2 --- Jean Monestime! We ousted an entrenched thief with big money and the unions behind him -he's ggggone!

How about Lynda Barf; Lying Bell; RTL Lynda; VNS Jr. -

And - Heaven help us in Dist. 8! I never thought in a million years I'd be asking Moss to re district me in to 9! Homestead should do the same, she's going to bury them in to the ground.

To the Rosen comment, he donated to her, I think via a PAC or directly. But, yes, Judy is going to need the witness protection program!

Eugene Flinn was not a great candidate. And he had no help from the Tea Party or the Christian Coalition. He did have help from Wayne Rosen and Al Lorenzo and still couldn't win. That is saying something for Lynda Bell's toughness.
Thank goodness Jean Monestime won!
Keith Donner and Annette Katz blew this campaign.

To the last anon, I agree re Keith & Annettee. This was not some local election, and they never got the bigger picture of the Dist. I was concerned early on when they kept focusing on Palmetto Bay & Pinecrest, when they should have been working the UMSA areas. They did no absentee ballot mailing either during the primary or now, that hurt them. I think they're both UTD people, and really didn't get the Dist. at all.

It's a shame. He had some good people on board but they were over shadowed by these two who took control and are ultimately responsible.

I'm glad they get to go back to their incorporated areas, while us, in unincorporated Dist. 8 have to suffer and be punished.

Thanks!

Thank you Eye On Miami for your coverage of Rolle. It was nice to know that some of the dirt we saw was making it out! Rolle pulled every dirty trick to try and stay in office but he forgot that we are empowered with the right as American Citizens to vote! Thank you thank you and keep blogging!

I saw no absentee ballot mailing from Flinn OR Bell, only from Taddeo in the primary. I'm a Dem, my mom is an R, so between us, we usually see it all. However, it does seem strange that a candidate (Bell) could LOSE early voting, LOSE election day voting, and win absentee voting by 10%. Are we positive Natacha wasn't stuffing the ballot boxes?

Rolle... what can you say. All those folks who nodded and said to Rolle, 'man we support you', went in and voted the opposite. That must burn. Ouch!~ But anyhow, does anyone have any photos of Rolle's party with Joe Martinez, Natacha Seijas, and Bruno and Pepe giving him the thumbs up? Yeah, baby!

But the bad guys got Bell through, and I hope Monestime understands that his "role" is going to be taking up against the evil ones. What an opportunity!

In Homestead we call her Mommie dearest because she is an out of control mom from hell. one thing is for sure JENNA (her daughter)WILL NOW HAVE A JOB WITH THE MIAMI DADE POLICE DEPT.

We tried to hold her accountable for not following the rules in the Homestead Mayor election but she failed to sign the fair campaign act so was not repremanded. She knows ALL the tricks fellas, there is no punishing that one. She knows what she is doing. Don't let her bible toting fool you either, it's a ploy to get you off guard. Lynda is a shrewed, lying, heartless politician and we are all screwed!!!!!
If there is a loophole she will exploit it for her own personal gain!!!!!!

The wicked witch of the deep south!

Something smells fishy, I would like a re- vote!!!!! How could she only win in absentee votes and lose at every poll, and still win???
I have a name for her, Lying Lynda!

Anonymous said...

Katie Edwards never stood at any polling place for more than 10 minutes, but her workers were campaigning for Bell and Bileca. I'm a dem, and I'm very glad she lost.

She attacked Gene for doing things like building parks or roads or community centers and branded any investments in our community as evil.

I hope the people living in South Dade like things the way they are right now 'cuz they won't get any better any time soon.

Anonymous said...

And the comment about Katz was uncalled for. she lives in the district and will suffer the same as the rest of us.

Bell played the Tea Party thing to the max and it paid off. Barely.

She squeaked out a win where other republicans blew out their opposition. Joe Garcia was (according to those overpaid pollsters) in a dead heat but lost by a stunning 10 points. Even after the scandal over Rivera's fake jobs.

Much of Congressional 25 overlaps this district. The republicans were out in force and every voter was swamped by poll workers handing out the little blue slate republican slate cards. The Dems were nowhere to be seen.

Gene tried to run as non-partisan or bipartisan showing support from a number of prominent republicans as well as democrats but this was the year of the angry republican voter.

I hope there's a challenge to the Dist. 8 race. There's something very wrong. Bell is the least competent, nasty and self serving person I know. She's worse than Seijas, believe me. VNS will look like a stuffed animal next to her. And, I hope there's someone in the VNS dist. who can be a viable candidate against her in the recall. Jean showed us it can be done, so let's do it!

"She attacked Gene for doing things like building parks or roads or community centers and branded any investments in our community as evil."

Exactly! People in Palmetto Bay WANT those things (which is why they overwhelmingly voted for Gene in 3 elections now). They're what they paid for and why they incorporated. Bell listened to two cranks running for mayor (one of whom got a mere 400 votes with his "mad as hell" campaign) and thought they spoke for the people. District 8 was the last district to throw out a sitting commissioner (Hawkins), and I dearly hope they will be the next. Or, better yet, challenge those absentee ballots.

Challenge the Ballots!!!!!!

I think the election was stolen.

And I was there when Lynda showed up at Araiza's fundraising event. She fits right in with his tea party mentality. Thank goodness he lost.

She has been involved with the other sleazy characters, England and Fiore.

Flinn's campaign was poorly run. Lynda Bell a.k.a. Sarah Palin light will be the new commissioner in district 8 and that is a shame. She is charged with representing the district, so if she messes up like she did in Homestead there is an option of a recall and there is a process called elections in 2014 when she would have to defend her seat.
This was very much a partisan race and Flinn was foolish not to work the Dems harder. Ultimately, the Tea Party and Christian Coalition are much better organized then the Dems or the pro-choice community.

I agree with previous anon. This election was Gene's to win or lose. When you look at the stats, they don't make sense. He should have counted on the crooked absentee ballot industry working against him, but he could have still been in it.

I am not hearing much at Patrick Fiori from the PB crowd. What in the heck were you people thinking? I am sick that Bev did not get in and that you got a scoundrel like him. Yikes!
