Politico reports that Bill Nelson was among members of the Senate Democratic Caucus who slammed President Obama in a behind-closed-door 3 hour meeting yesterday in Washington. "Senate Democrats – including typically mild-mannered Bill Nelson of Florida – ... told colleagues Obama’s unpopularity has become a serious liability for Democrats in his state and blamed the president for creating a toxic political environment for Democrats nationwide, according to two Democrats familiar with his remarks."
I would ask, what have you done to distinguish your voice and vision during this economic meltdown? You were in the US Senate while serial asset bubbles were fomented by the Fed. In particular you did or said nothing about the rampant over-speculation in land development in Florida that is the hallmark of Florida's snatch and grab economy. How is that President Obama's fault? Have you reached out to Hispanic voters? Alex Sink did a miserable job there, yet she blames President Obama.
The takeaway from the last election for Democrats like Senator Nelson should not be to attack the President. While he deserves to be criticized for failing the basic ABC's of grass roots organizing, Obama cannot be faulted for poor, lackluster campaign like Sink's bid to be governor. Be careful, Senator Nelson.

I'm a Fla Dem and I could not agree more.
President Obama is my president. I am loyal to him. I have to say, though, that if he doesn't let the Bush tax cuts fade away, or at least stop them for the wealthy, he's going to lose me. Bush put us in the hole and Obama's job, whether he likes it or not, is to dig us out. If he chooses cuts to social security over restoring the taxes, I am done! He needs to stand up to corporate America, and the Democrats need to cheer him on. Get a pair, Mr. President! We're behind you.

Whatever Nelson says, he is not allowed to blame the new messiah. That's blasphemy!
Go back to the Bush years and take a look at how Senator Nelson pimped his vote for the Bush Administration on numerous occasions. He's a survivor and a very unprincipled on at that.

Anon #3 [GoD, please add times to these comments!]....haven't you heard that Rubio is The One? Calling Obama The Messiah is so 2008 Republican Talking Pointish. Get with the program, Buckwheat.

Obama has learned a lot in these last two years. He has power no one else in the world has and everyone in DC except him understands that. He now has to use his power to make things happen for the country. These millie-mouthed Democrats and crazy Republicans will all stand at attention when he starts ruling with a clear understanding of his power. A firm hand is all they understand, and they won't follow a weakling particularly now with chaos all around. His media, message, and communications operation needs a major overhaul for messaging with everyday people. And if they can't do it, fire them and get some more people. After that, he needs to rule with an iron fist within his administration, and use a "carrots and sticks" approach with Congress. He does that, no one would dare say these "out-of- order" things. They don't call it the "imperial Presidency" for nothing.
agree 100% that it's time for Obama to use his executibve and other powers to advance causes for the lower and middle class citizens of this country. I don't think he counted on the Dems being as meelymouth and political as they are, instead of standing up for what this country needs, they woory constatntly about being re-elected, and when things go south they blame Obama.
and that's a lot of crap.
Achtung! Zis iz unacceptable. All Democrats must follow in lockstep in support of das führer. Individual choice and opinions are NOT ALLOWED!
Nelson has every right to criticize the toxic political atmosphere that Obama has created. His hard push to the left has infuriated the Right and even upset the moderates, who didn't realize Obama was so Progressive. Nelson is trying to survive by triangulating against Obama and the excesses of the Tea Party.
As far as suggesting that Obama use executive power to advance his unpopular causes, well, I guess you didn't understand what the November 2nd "shellacking" meant. If Obama continues with Big Government, Big Spending, and Big Debt, then the Democrat Party will go down in flames in 2012 and stay down for a generation.
