Aventura Mall Says: No Animals Allowed, Living or Dead... By Geniusofdespair

Aventura Mall had a brawl August 28th, 16 arrests were made and the bro were tasered too. Now the Mall strikes back with tough rules, most appear to be aimed at teens and young adults. The Mall had to be evacuated because of the severity of the scuffle, although most of the stores were already closed. The movie theaters brought in the teens. To combat unsupervised adults, the mall now requires that after 9:30 p.m., if under 18, you are banned unless accompanied by a parent and the parent can only have 3 minors in their company. Do you have 4 children? Don't go to Aventura Mall.

This is my favorite rule after bringing no animals living or dead:

"When conditions contribute to an overflow of juveniles, Management reserves the right to disperse or eject individuals or groups."

Aventura Management: I want to report that I saw a lady in Bloomingdales with a lap dog. Why wasn't she ejected? Rules are rules.

One last rule that amused me was that you can't wear apparel that "is likely to provoke a disturbance." Doesn't half the stuff sold at the mall qualify for that? A skimpy top on manufactured humongous breasts (and there are plenty of those at Aventura Mall) could provoke 'a disturbance'. What qualifies as a disturbance? Remember when you shop now (not just at red lights) big brother is watching you, cover up those breasts girls and pull up those pants boys.

Are these the strictest mall rules in the nation? Anyone know?

You have ignored the 9:30 P.M. time. That is when the mall closes and only the movies are open.

Read the 1st paragraph AGAIN Mensa --- I mentioned that there, I didn't ignore it. . As we get closer to Xmas it will be an issue as stores are open later.

question: Why are readers constantly picking apart my posts when they don't even bother to read them through... I work for free, my blogs are far from perfect but cut me some slack. No reporters write 7 days a week except nuts like me.

Sorry, I was in a rush.

Where is the ACLU on this? Haven't malls become classified as public spaces yet? Let's get a mom with 6 kids for a test case. I don't like the rules.

Were you responding in regard to my earlier post about the 8-track? My post was critical of the sign, not your post. I wouldn't read your blog if I did not like it. I was taking a shot at the mall, not the Eye.

Cutler Ridge Mall had some strict rules too... it caused a ruckus, but if a parent doesn't teach public behavior at home, then someone is bound to have to, either the police or the places the kids visit.

The Falls have rules too... and a designated pick-up place for teens.

I don't think there is a constitutional right that requires private property owners to give up their right to maintain a safe and secure premises.

In fact, they can get found liable if there is a pattern of behavior where the business property ignores hazardous conditions and someone gets injured.... like people constantly getting mugged on the premises and the property owner declines to address the issue.

It the brats don't want to conform to the rules then shop elsewhere. And yes, that means my child may have to go elsewhere if I can't tag along when they want to go.

Everyone seems willing to let every entity chip away at their rights in the name of safety. You can't live your lives being afraid. You might as well stay home behind your locked door.

You have to provide something for kids to do. What do you suggest your kids and other 16 and 17 year old kids do on a weekend at 9:30 for recreation? Would you have gone out with your mom at 16 and 17? Gimme a break!

Admittedly, 9:30 is a little early for 16 and 17-year-olds who are actually going to a movie, but the curfew probably does help out parents of younger kids who are trying to enforce some rules only to be confronted with how "everyone else" lets their kids run amok. It's not uncommon for parents to drop unaccompanied 11-year-olds off at the Falls, and then your kid is viewed as a dork if you won't let them. The curfew makes it easier for the parent to say, "Sorry. That's the rule."

My kids took me with them until they were 18... We had a good relationship and I enjoyed them and their friends.

Then I got bored with paying for the tab because I was the adult...:p

Actually, if you don't raise them to behave there will be people who will help them behave, unfortunately some of the kids get hurt or hurt someone else before a responsible adult steps in.

I don't recall doing much dropping off at the malls... I did drop off at houses once I ascertained the parents were there.

Aventura Mall is making the right decision being proactive early. Look at what happened to 163rd st mall in the 80s. Ruined because of the high school fights from NMB High School during lunch time. Good for them from keeping another Mall going down the tubes because of a few unruly punks. Hopefully Pembroke Pines will also take note!

Aventura Mall lost my business 4-5 years ago. Too many "youth". They were loud and obnoxious. We wants to see idiots with their underwear showing?

It was impossible to see popular movies as dozens of idiots would talk at the movie. I haven't visited in 5 years. I hope the mall enforces the rules aggressively.

The Mall is Not the streets, yet it's clientle is everyone. Why should the Mall be responsible for security. Natually they will hire the cheapest, stupidiest, oldest they can find at the lowest price. I would like to see more police in the malls, since "Quote", we now use Big Brother Cameras to give tickets to free up our street cops to do their Job. Aventura Police Department, Do your job. I am a 63 year old who in no way thinks there should be a curfew on age. I am not that old to remember me at 14,15 going from, yes you guest it, Brooklyn NYC to Manhattan to enjoy the BIG Lights of the City. Isn't the Malls the same thing. More police presence inside the mall, not in their cars eating MacDonalds. Ladies and Gents, the award for stupidiest run organization, "It's a tie, The Mall at Aventura and The Aventura Police Department, who only care about revenue in their monthly report".

They had something to do until those unruly juveniles ruined it for everyone. I believe the mall did the absolute right thing by enforcing this new rule. Imagine if this happened again and someone got seriously injured? Not only would it be a PR nightmare but imagine the lawsuit(s) that would ensue. The mall is doing what any respectable establishment would do... protecting and securing itself from any further incidents that pose a danger to the facility and its visitors. Let's all keep in mind this wasn't a minor scuffle, this was a HUGE incident. The mall would be stupid not to take any new measures to keep this from happening again. I do however feel the "3 kids per parent" thing is a bit strange.

...Meant to say a bit strict.

too bad most of the merchandise in aventural mall is non-living animals :/ what a rediculous rule! As for the 3 kids per parent rule- that is rediculous as well! Many people have more than 3 kids or are traveling in groups with children and their friends. How anyone ever got away with publishing and enforcing these rules is beyond me. That being said, it is Aventura so none of this suprises me!

It is not adults it is management not wanting to lose customers ... Besides there was a mini riot---- that is not kids just having "fun"
