"Commissioner Gimenez requested this proposed resolution be amended to waive formal bid procedures and to authorize the County Attorney’s Office to contract with an independent auditor, and other professionals as necessary, to review the stadium agreements and the documents to be made available by the Marlins and its affiliates, including the financial statements and the cash flow statements, in order to assess and prepare a report regarding the capability of the Marlins to meet its financial obligations in this proposed resolution, and that the County Attorney’s Office submit this report to the Commission before the County issued any baseball stadium bonds. Commissioner Barreiro did not accept this requested amendment. "

Last Anon: I remember that. Gimenez tried to add several amendments. Bruno would just look at David Samson, and if Samson went thumbs down, so did Bruno. He needs to be recalled!!

Carlitos! Fire George - take his remains to Braman!

Sosa was in it too, media-hog that she is. She;s trying to get credit for trying to re-open the agreements -- but they are not negotiable, something she should have realized before voting yes. I won't vote to recall Alvarez for this year's county budget, but I'd feel justified in recalling him for pushing this stadium fiasco - and all the commissioners who voted for it.

"Mayor Carlos Alvarez noted the stadium was a high priority for him. He explained that the issue of using public funds on a baseball stadium was a question asked in every County mayoral debate for the 2004 election, and that the other candidates running for mayor opposed the use of public funds, whereas he supported the use of public funds. He clarified that the public electing him as mayor indicated the public’s support for the proposed funding plan."

One thing is using Public funds as part of the equation, the other thing is getting totally used and abused by the Marlins, not asking the critical relevant questions, and basically acting as an agent for the Marlins, as opposed to a steward of the public trust. What a clown!! Actually, Burgess and Alvarez are a bunch of clowns!

I would support Commissioner Gimenez for Miami Dade County Mayor any day of the week. He is a Cuban-American who has a very broard voter base with Cuban-Americans and other Latins as well as non-latins. His knowledge and experience gained while employed by the City of Miami could come in very handy if he is elected County Mayor.

I like Gimenez too and I will most likely vote for him, but I don't give a flip about what his ethnicity is. Your comment really pisses me off. It is two shades away from the Dorin Rolle comment. What, do you have to be Hispanic before you can even be considered? I am sorry, that is obnoxious.
