New York's Feminist Congresswoman Bella Abzug (in office 1971-1977) was famous for wearing zany hats. More than 30 years later, Florida will return that tradition to the Capitol in Washington, D.C. We have a Congresswoman who loves her hats too: Frederica Wilson. She is a shoe-in for the seat that Kendrick Meek stupidly vacated. Let's hope, like Bella, Frederica is more than a hat. Abzug's political stands earned her a place on the master list of Nixon political opponents.

Her hats are lovely. The key for her is to develop and implement a policy agenda and track record of addressing the needs of the district. There are plenty of seat warmers in Congress. When her work is over, I hope she is known for her work for the district rather than for wearing hats. We had a school board member who served for many years on the school board and when he died, all they reported was that he was a "spiffy" dresser.
Afraid the same is true of Frederica.
She follows in a great tradition. As I recall, Bella was a hard-line tarantula type woman with jugular-vein instincts. If anything, she used her hats to distract and disarm people so they would expose their necks. American women enjoy equal rights in large part due to the pioneering work of Bella. So, I would not be so quick to make a judgement call.
Doesn't anyone remember hearing Frederica at the School Board Meetings? Talk about word salad - what a hoot! It is surreal that she will likely be sitting in congress and supposedly representing us.
I fear your hopes will be found wanting. I've never seen anything from her above hat rack quality.
