ELECTIONS: The Positives. By Geniusofdespair

Let us try to be civil. Write a 100 word or less positive comment on why people should vote for your candidate or why you voted for that candidate in any race. If you mention any other candidates, or make a veiled reference, your comment is toast. Too long or if you include a link, toast too. This is your day to shine with heart-felt support.

Mr. Jean Monestime represents change for residents of Miami Dade County District 2. He is an independent man. His lobbyists ARE the voters and residents of District two. He will NEVER vote to move the UDB line and he strongly support home rule. He is bright; he is humble; he builds consensus.

Wow, someone who actually listens, this comment is a good example of what I was asking for. Thank you!

Danny Marmorstein is my choice. He has been the sleeper candidate but the people who care will elect him because he is honest, caring and a good person. He has put forth effort to understand the issues and he is firmly for protecting the environment.

Bells are ringing: that is exactly what I don't want. But thanks for the effort...I think?

I hope voters will put my choice Julio Robiana in the Florida Senate seat. He has been an excellent State Representative and he was the best Mayor South Miami ever had. He is a good, honorable man. Please vote!

I live in Pinecrest and used to wish we could have Flinn as our Mayor. He has led some great community improvements. Now we have Mayor Lerner who makes Pinecrest proud. I am voting for Flinn so we can have the combination of Flinn at the County level and Mayor Lerner in Pinecrest.

I support the Manchurian Candidate.

I will proudly cast my vote for Charlie Crist because -- although I didn't vote for him in the gubernatorial race -- his actions have convinced me that Charlie is good for Florida, and if it's good for Florida, IT'S GOOD FOR ME. Other than that, his demeanor is always dignified and upright, and that's the kind of politician I want representing me. Charlie has proven over and over that the interests of the state drive him. We've had political scandal to last us a millennium, let's now go with a real "mensch"!

Since I am still a Republican, sigh, I will be voting for Bill McC in the primary. The positives 1. As Attorney General he has gone after some fraud. 2. He appears to care about the Everglades. We have a lot in common. We both wear glasses.

Keeping positive is not easy...

Please Vote No on County Question #3: it is designed to make it tougher to break FPL's monopoly on electric power in Miami-Dade. We can't leave the FPL franchise agreement to the county commission. It must be a vote.

Libby Perez, School Board District 7. A highly informed, active PTSA Mom with a child in MDCPS. No ties to lobbyists, PACs or special interests. Endorsed by G. Holmes Braddock, Dr. Marta Perez, Senator Alex Villalobos. Has support of SupportDadeSchools.net Lived in the District for 24 years. It's time to have a parent represented on this special interest-laden Board. We did a public records check on her: clean, clean, clean.

I voted for Albert Harum-Alvarez for County Commissioner, District 8. Albert has a diverse career background and has never run for public office before. Albert is obviously a leader in environmental matters, e..g., his “green” house. I have no doubt that he will be responsive to his constituents as well as to all Miami-Dade Countians. He is bright and he is honest.

Annette Taddeo is the candidate I voted for. She will not move the urban development line, she was endorsed by the unions because she is a strong candidate. She cares and she will fill Katy's shoes better than anyone else because she believes in the same things.

Mario Yanez said...

Albert Harum-Alvarez (District 8)is the best candidate for Katy's seat because he believes in designing solutions that work for everyone. He is a trained mediator and he is awake to the waste and gross mismanagement that is happening with tax payer dollars that has all but bankrupted our County. He loves Miami-Dade, will act to conserve what is best about our County and to do what is best for all of us and future generations, not just those in his district.

I vote for Digby the Dog. He is loyal to a fault. He is fiercely protective of his constituency. He marks his corners. He understands the boundaries of the law. He always wakes up happy. His only fault is that he drools and greets strangers by sniffing them out. But otherwise, his bark is fiercer than his bite and he gives love without condition. Vote Digby!

Albert Harum-Alvarez is resolutely honest and cares deeply about Miami Dade. He worked for years as a volunteer and neighborhood activist because of how strongly he feels about the issues that have faced he and his neighbors. One of the things that people may not know is that Albert has studied and researched the ideas and practices that have allowed healthy, neighborly communities to grow--with the appropriate scale and in respect of the environment. Albert is determined but respectful, sharply intelligent, and energetic. He'll make a great Commissioner.

My vote went to Lynda Bell. 'She was the 1st woman to ever be Mayor in Homeestead. She is very smart and cares deeply about Miami Dade County. She stood up to developers with a building moratorium. You can't go wrong with Lynda.

I voted for Flinn. He has experience working with the county commission as mayor of Palmetto Bay and as a citizen activist before then. He always has time for his constituents and knows how to build consensus and when to fight. He has a strong record for the environment and againt development, has kept taxes low while still improving the quality of life in Palmetto Bay. I hope he will be able to bring this leadership to the county commission.

By process of elimination, it has to be Flinn who I believe has more of qualities needed than anyone else in the race. We wont always agree with him but his positions will be sincere and thoughtful without an eye to the next election.

I voted for Piedra. He is a true representative of the people, has a business background, wasn't bought by the Unions and is the only candidate that has served/volunteered for the people within Miami Dade County. There just isn't a better person for the job.

I'm voting for Robert Kuntz for judge. He used to be a reporter and has been a lawyer for about 15 years. He was near the top of his class at UM. He has a VERY broad experience and represents people and businesses (like mine!) all over the county. Most of all, he is a good, kind, intelligent guy who is not going to let wearing a robe go to his head. I'm voting #103.

I voted for Albert Harum-Alvarez.
Harum-Alvarez supports Amendment 4(Florida Hometown Democracy). Albert also opposes FPL's proposed expansion of nuclear reactors. Albert also opposes high density developments. Albert also wants complete transparency in county government and wants to hold corrupt and incompetent public officials accountable. Albert also opposes wasteful spending by the county commission. Albert's campaign is financed by grassroots supporters not by big business or other special interests.

I voted for Nathasha Alvarez for School Board District 7. Nathasha is the only candidate that is a teacher. Nathasha wants children to have quality education and she is strongly opposed to teaching students to pass the FCAT test. Nathasha wants to expand the selection of electives and extra-curricular activities in middle schools. Nathasha wants the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades in K-8 centers to be funded appropriately. Nathasha wants to ensure that funding for special needs students is appropriately allocated. Nathasha wants to increase teacher pay once unnecessary spending has been removed from the budget. Nathasha opposes merit pay. Nathasha is against raising taxes and advocates teaching critical thinking. Nathasha wants to end the lack of transparency at school board meetings. Nathasha also wants to ensure student safety.

I am for Albert because I like his stand on ecology. I believe in what he can do for our county.

I am voting for Annette because she is great on all issues. She supports women's rights, she has a great stance on the environment, and she knows what to do to create jobs and help boost our economy. Most importantly, she is doing it for the right reasons.

Albert Harum-Alvarez is gentle, knowledgable, passionate about his home town, capable of bringing diverse people together, an excellent listener, a patient teacher and honest. I have seen him make difficult decisions knowing that they would cost him personally. I can't imagine a better person to represent Miami Dade County.

Anonymous said...

I voted for Annette Taddeo because she is honest, fair, smart, right on all the issues, supported by nurses, doctors, teachers, SaveDade, women, men, and she is the most like Katy Sorenson of all six candidates in this race.

Anonymous said...

I support Albert Harum-Alvarez for all the reasons that have been stated previously - his honesty, incredible knowledge of the issues, long time community involvement, etc. etc. However, I was additionally impressed with him when, at a recent campaign event, someone asked his opinion about his competitors. He answered that he had the utmost respect for all of them since he now knew how hard it was to run for office. He then went on to discuss the issues. He never said a negative word about anyone else. How refreshing.

Danny Marmorstein is my choice for District 8. He's got the courage and intellect to get things done.

Obdulio Piedras has the upper hand in this district 8 election. He will win easily. The Republicans will be out in droves for the Governor's race.

At the end, all the candidates have some strong characteristics. However, I voted for Piedra. He is just the better person for the job. He has real experience in work force and job creation as a representative of the private sector.

I voted for Scott Galvin for Congress. I also liked Shirley Gibson and Marliene Bastien, it was hard to choose. There are many good candidates in this district all superior people.

I am rethinking my vote. I went to Digby the Dog's website. I like his platform.

I'm supporting Libby Perez. We have teachers and business people on the School Board. I agree with an earlier poster-it's time we had a parent on the School Board. The Miami Herald article called her transparent and accountable. That's what we need. Someone not tied to special interests.

I voted for Flinn. He has been great with working with the schools and has done some neat things with the kids - like the lady bug release. Who cool is that?

As our first mayor he guided PB into a real sense of community. That is why we incorporated and he didn't disappoint.

I support Albert Harum-Alvarez. He is an honest man with a good heart. His commitment to his community and environment speaks volumes.
Go Albert!

Pat Kyle said...

Albert's face is his greatest asset. He's warm, likeable, caring and friendly. He truly wants to fix the problms we are having with Miami Dade Countys economy. He's a businessman. He's served on dozens of community groups. He's definitely a green candidate. He's volunteered in his childrens PTA, an award-winning and nationally renowned outdoor classroom.
He's well informed and wants to make Miami Dade County the most transparent local government in the country. ALBERT IS A PATRIOT!!!!

. Albert Harum Alvarez has earned my vote. I am impressed with his grasp of the issues. He will be a great County Commissioner.

Anonymous said...

I think Albert is a class act. I am concerned that he is just a little too nice which would be a problem with the other commissioners. Just remember, who ever wins must go head to head with the Vile One.

Piedra has the proper balance and from my understanding, the Vile One doesn't like him. That alone brings a smile to my face.

Holy moley, Genius! You can flatter yourself for having the most civilized, fluent, intelligent readers. It's a pleasure to read the remarks you elicited with your request for comments on our preferred candidates, and it's obvious -- judging by the caliber of your fans -- that you are a class act... and I'm not gilding your pill!

"In Miami-Dade County, total revenue grew from $4.7 billion in 2000 to $7.7 billion in 2008. Yet the population grew a mere 5 percent, and in the last county budget services were cut because there was not enough money. Some thing has gone amiss here.

This is one of the reasons why I support Albert, because among other issues like hold the line on overdevelopment, he wants to make Miami-Dade County the most transparent and efficient local government in the country, and knowing Albert, he will achieve it!

I voted early for Gene Flinn for County Commissioner. Most of the candidates are identical on the issues of UDB, transparency, green initiatives, etc. But County government is a lot more than that. What sets Flinn above the rest is his tremendous experience in local government and state legislative process. That is invaluable and irreplaceable.

Sorry--patriot post--wasn't positive.

Albert Harum-Alvarez said...

Thanks for calling me "nice," Anonymous. Other people have called me nice before! They were not my students in the inner city, nor the developers I've defeated in land use battles. Professionals who come to me for critique on their business systems appreciate the brutal honesty of my critiques. I am respectful, but I pull no punches, and I don't tolerate lies and deception. The people I work with know that, and they either appreciate it, or they leave.

That's why a developer and respected businessman who had known me for 12 years says that I am the only candidate who will be able to go toe to toe with the commission.

When I speak to the commission, I make a point of waiting until they are listening. Pull the tape, and look at the dais. I demand respect, respectfully. I learned that in Watts, South Central Los Angeles, Overtown and even at Coral Gables High. The people of District 8 WILL be heard, loud and clear, if I am elected to the commission. I guarantee it.

My vote goes to Albert Harum Alvarez. I have know Albert over 10 years and have worked with him in the community on several projects. He is interested in working with people to make our community a better place to live. He does not just talk about green initiatives he built and lives in a "green house". Albert will truly make a great Commissioner.
