County Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz's Campaign Report. By Geniusofdespair

Jose 'Pepe Le Pew' Diaz has raised $264,799.44 thus far to combat Heather Pernas who has a whopping $600 in her campaign account of which she has already spent $425.20. In reality she actually only has $174.80 which is less than .01% of what he has.

I would call this serious, major overkill on the part of Pepe Le Pew Diaz to decimate this candidate.

He got money from many of the usual suspects such as from the Marlins' Jeffrey Loria, his wife and David Samson. Total from Marlins interests $3,500. Homestead Speedway (wants a UDB change) gave as did Lobbyists Chris Korge and Susan Fried. Law firm Greenberg Traurig gave $500 and the Munilla family gave $4,000. Not a very surprising report.

Wasn't Pepe Le Pew the cartoon character that was always after the cat that rejected him because he smelled so bad?

Just because a politician accepts a campaign donation, it does not mean that She or He WILL consider it a bribe and move mountains for it.

What fool would do that for 500 or 2000 of bundled money?

He is a fool just the same.

I said it wasn't a very surprising report. Yes, accepting campaign donations does not guarantee anything it is the money in the paper bags given to stooges that bothers me more, but I am not privy to that information so I make due. We can logically assume Munilla with $4,000 has more access to Pepe Le Pew than you or me will have. Maybe Munilla will not get a vote (HA HA HA) but he will get an audience whenever he wants.

Well, bagmen aside, you gotta to have faith that your elected official has an open door policy that respects the sunshine and jennings laws.

I think normal folks who are not nasty can get access too. If you are a crotchety nasty person no one will want to visit with you, not to mention listen. In that case, the money may help. Or not, depending on how effective the elected officials gate keepers are.

Environmentalists get to see the aides for the most part.

The aides are where the power lies, they set policy.

Who are you??? Pollyanna?

It is past time to go back to campaign finance reform: $250 per individual and no corporate donations! Clearly the multiple businesses owned by powerful people in town are in the campaign donating game. It is obscene. This is the biggest problem in government today and the reason challengers have little chance of beating the incumbents. If every election is truly a term limit, then donations must be cut down to a reasonable amount.

Pollyanna? Maybe. Or Tinkerbell. It doesn't matter.

As an environmentalist you should be considering people like Sean in District 8 a policy maven. He isn't just an aide. All of the commissioners have aides like him. That is why commission staff needs to be in tune with the community. They are policy advisers.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever tried to get a meeting with Commissioner Diaz?

Anonymous said...

And he refused to meet with you?

I think her YES says she did not get a meeting.

While I don't like Pepe, I don't see how it's his fault that he raised about 300x more than her. If she had raised any viable amount of money, and this was the case, it would be different. But you can't have Joe the Plumber go against Jane the Housewife and expect to be a viable candidate with $600.

I don't know about that Polly. I'd like to hear if he refused to meet with genius. I am not one to defend county commissioners, especially Diaz, but I met with him years ago on a hold the line issue. Sure it took me two weeks to get the meeting, but I did meet with him and not his staff. And, by the way, I never contributed to his campaign.

Looks like Pepe Le Pew's staff has found this blog!

She is not a viable candidate that is the point. He doesn't need to raise any more money. HE CAN STOP raising money at any time. It becomes obscene.

Heather, you are wasting your and OUR time. There is a lot of work to be completed in district 12 that needs Pepe's attention. Now he has to go out to confirm votes because of your temper trantums over the Belen School issues.
You should have continued as an activist and gotten a lot more done.
Selfish, selfish, selfish.

Yes, his staff does review your blog. It is part of our job responsibilities to know what is going on around the community. While I do not know who wrote the other comments, it seems like they know that Commissioner Diaz meets with his constituency. In fact, I know that Commissioner Diaz attempted to meet with you some time ago, and you, not him, did not give him “access”. I never write on these blogs. I simply read through them. But I wanted to write today to let readers know that you are the one that does not want to meet with Commissioner Diaz. In fact, when we requested a meeting with you, WE were directed to someone else because YOU were not interested. On the other hand, Commissioner Diaz does meet with anyone, even if he may not agree with their view on a specific issue. His role as an elected official requires him to show his face and open his door to all members of the public. You, however, choose to hide behind your blog and instigate anger in your readers. I know elected officials are public figures, but don’t mislead people about Commissioner Diaz’s accessibility. He is one of the most accessible elected officials out there, regardless of whether or not you donate to his campaign.

Dear Pepe Le Pew's aide: You approached me through a lobbyist. I don't make appointments through lobbyists. Besides I have nothing to say to the man at this point, he has been one of the unreformable majority for too long...Pepe who is so often in awe of the "wisdom" of others ought to get some of his own wisdom.

I am talking about years ago...when he was on the fatter side that I got the brush off.

P.S. Tell him to give us some good votes and to stop sucking up to Vile Natacha and the love will flow on this blog for him.

The only wisdom Pepe has is his wisdom teeth.

Chris Korge? Is that the same guy who lives in Pinecrest with the Taddeo sign on his front lawn?

Well, Diaz thinks he is the smartest but remember his Sweetwater health insurance disaster, where he used it to his own benefit...a free tummy surgery to loose weight...flying aroundin private jets and all of a sudden trying to become this most charming man when in actuality, as soon as you turn your back he will stab you. He makes, and always has made promised he doesn't keep and is dishonest....I would rather vote to the roadrunner than Diaz...
