The vote was 7 in favor, 4 opposed (including Javier Souto and Pepe Diaz, didn't catch the other two no votes) to this no brainer resolution:
RESOLUTION URGING THE U.S. CONGRESS TO REINSTATE THE FEDERAL ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN; URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO IMPOSE A STATE ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN; AND ALTERNATIVELY URGING THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE TO LIFT THE PREEMPTION ON LOCAL GOVERNMENTS’ REGULATING ASSAULT WEAPONS IN FLORIDA AND ALLOW LOCAL GOVERNMENTS TO IMPOSE AN ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN
Barbara J. Jordan, Prime Sponsor Also Sally Heyman
Can anyone identify the other two NO voters for me? The other two NO votes were identified for me: Barreiro and Sosa. Surprisingly, it wasn't Natacha.

Souto keeps on rambling.
"Yes, yes, I'm a NO".
Pepe Diaz, "All in favor say 'I',
Any oppose?
Souto, "No".
The old man is very far out there folks. Do you think it's time he is voted out?
On this one the no Brianers are the ones who voted yes. Though I still can't defend Pepe or Bruno et al in general.
This is hogwash
One: These are not assault weapons they are semi automatic rifles (just like any other) that resemble fully automatic assault weapons (Which by the way are already illegal for common folk to own)
Two: a minuet amount of crimes are committed with the legal assault weapons most are committed with handguns and the most deadly incidents are ussually with Illegal Fully Automatic Assault rifles.
Three: Read the second amendment and also read up on American Revolution (No it wasn't in October) and the circumstances surrounding the adoption of such an amendment.
Fourth: If it wasn't for the second amendment the first would be a goner.
No Brainer
I Wholeheartedly Agree
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Case closed.

Did you mean Militar?
---------------------------
mi·li·tia /mɪˈlɪʃə/ Show Spelled[mi-lish-uh] Show IPA
–noun
1.a body of citizens enrolled for military service, and called out periodically for drill but serving full time only in emergencies.
2.a body of citizen soldiers as distinguished from professional soldiers.
3.all able-bodied males considered by law eligible for military service.
4.a body of citizens organized in a paramilitary group and typically regarding themselves as defenders of individual rights against the presumed interference of the federal government.
M I L I T A is not a word in English you fucking dolt. In Spanish, it's almost the misspelled name of a sweet grain-containing beverage favored by Miami Latinos, especially when sweetened condensed milk is added (take out both "i's" and put an "a" between the "m" and the "l").
WHY ARE WE ARGUING ABOUT SPELLING...
this has turn into a Souto style rambling, which makes no sense.
An assault weapon is an automatic weapon like a machine gun. Those are already banned. The bill in Congress would ban SEMI-AUTOMATIC guns that merely look like assault weapons. There is no justification for such a ban. The last ban had no impact on the crime rate. What legitimate reason could there be to infringe on my constitutional rights?
You would think that our county commission would have better things to do than to debate legislation that is pending in the U.S. Congress.
Is this the kind that was used to gun down the 7 and 9 year olds a week ago in the drive-by?
FYI, here's the roll call from MiamiDade.gov:
Adopted
Resolution R-646-10
Mover: Barbara J. Jordan
Seconder: Katy Sorenson
Vote: 7 - 4
No: Barreiro , Sosa , Souto , Diaz
Absent: Rolle , Moss
All you dinks that think they "look" like assault weapons: I'm sure that's why Mexican drug mafia buy them in the US and smuggle them south of the border - for "looks."
The AW ban wasn't renewed by Congress under Prez GWB and the incidents of crimes with them spiked. And without fail, those cases are multiple shootings, often of children and innocents too close to some thug or in an initiation ritual.
And reinstatement of the ban is supported strongly by damn-near every law enforcement group in the country. So you're against the police I suppose.
And there are reasonable restrictions on 1st Amendment speech (which just says the government can't control what you say) so reasonable restrictions on weapons for an imaginary militia seems, well, reasonable. Does bearing arms include mortars? Grenades? RPGs? After all, "arms" are generally defined as weapons unspecific to type since the founding fathers didn't call them "small arms" or "firearms" or "muskets" in the Bill of Rights.
