Add number 8 to the list of candidates for Katy Sorenson's District 8 Commission seat: Daniel "Danny" Marmorstein. His treasurer is Anne Katz. He wrote "Rabbi" on his form and crossed it out so I would suppose this is a photo of him. This is an August 2009 report on the arrival of the "Hitler Torah" to his congregation.Also running for Miami-Dade Mayor is Lazaro R. Gonzalez. I believe that is the same guy who ran the unsuccessful mayor recall campaign a few months back.

8 for 8! As a voter in this District, I'm really starting to get annoyed with some of the candidates. I know this is an open seat, but it shouldn't be a three ring circus, which is what it's starting to look like.
Most of the candidates are basically running (in my opinion) because they can or why not or have been convinced by people they're paying to run for the open seat.
County Hall is not a learning curve. With UDB issues; high foreclosures; budget problems; Jackson, and you name it, do we really want someone who has absolutely no experience at the County level?
The Chamber and LBA have their token candidates lined up. With this incredibly dilluted pool, I worry that the best and most qualified candidates to serve District 8 will be muted by uninformed voters via absentee ballots.
This is a shame and those running because they can - shouldn't.

I think new ideas at the county level is a great start.
Yes, new ideas is very good but in a "viper's nest" like the County Commission, you can't have a "babe in the woods" who can be manipulated, intimidated and even bullied by the other commissioners AND their $$$ interests. We need our very own "viper" in there!
I don't know about everyone else but I will base my vote and I will campaign for folks who have stood to be elected in their own communities, produded budgets and lead their communities well.
I have every intention of going to the May 19th forum/debate but my focus will be on either Palmetto Bay's Eugene Flinn or Homestead's Lynda Bell.
But what about the candidates who actually lead within the community and have historically fought for issues within the County and the District? Why so short sighted last anon? I'm not saying anything against Bell or Flinn, but the District is not like their City's are nor does County Hall operate like they do within their own City's.
Being and administrator is a lot different than a County Commissioner, especially with the current climate at the BCC.
Flinn has had clean audit in Palmetto Bay and Homestead has always had problems no matter who was Mayor.
Homestead used approximately 2.3 Million Dollars from impact fees for their new Senior Center. Mind you, it's a great facility, but what about the infrastructure that's needed that those funds should have been used for? If you look at how much they're collecting now versus when the gravy train was going, it was pretty easy to navigate financially when money rolls in. But, what about now?
I want to know who is going to serve our Community, not a snapshot within one section of it.
I'm also concerned about our environmental issues and do not believe for one seconf Bell is supportive of much of Katy's current Policy's, though Flinn probably is.
And, don't forget about Gray. She's been around for a very long time and has a County voting record on the Planning Advisory Board, which she served as Chair. I wouldn't be too dismissive of her because she wasn't "elected". She's served this District and County well, and was appointed by Commissioner Sorenson.
Homestead is a mess. Lynda has been there long enough to develop an anger problem.
I think that there are too many clueless folks running for the seat. They may be running for ego, but some of them are truly disconnected with the real world.
Flinn has done more than run a city. Palmetto Bay was not always a city.
There seems to be a heck of alot of people running who are not a community based candidate. You have to lookout for the ones that are chamber hounds and those who talk alot about stuff and do nothing. The really are coming with their own agendas and it is not communities. They are puppets of their desires.
Flinn has never administered a "city" - he's mayor of a village.
Get your facts straight.
And it's gonna be 9 soon. I hear Republican State House member Juan Zapata is seriously thinking about jumpig in - Good God!
What is the difference between a city and a village? They are both recognized as independent governmental entities. I believe that is the point of the message.

I am sure the residents enjoy their space in the municipal world no matter what they are identified as or called. It is a village, a united community and has been blessed with good management. I was anti-incorporation, however, I can see that the community has bloomed nicely after the incorporation.

Also, I got an E-mail forwarded to me this past weekend encoraging folks to go to the May 19th forum and "support our conservative GOP candidates - Albert Harum-Alvarez, Lynda Bell and Jason Culler"
I know this is a non-partisan race but AHA has been marketing himself as a liberal Democrat very much in line with Katy Sorenson.
Is he a liberal or a conservative?
I wanna know. His response may decide who I vote for in August.
AHA is very much in to his religious issues as Bell is and they're both RTL. I know nothing about Culler other than he coaches at a High School. I know Bell is a Republican, I don't know AHA's party affiliation.

Flinn may look good, all those tweets about releasing ladybugs on Earth day, but he's just another County stooge. I have heard repeatedly now that he's using Mayor Carlos Alvarez' South Dade Rep, Chris something or other, as his personal campaign aide.
I've also rumors going around that this 'Chris' guy is telling folks that Flinn is the Mayor's candidate and that he will be Flinn's Chief of Staff once he wins the election. Forgive me but isn't a conflict of interest for County officials to work the campaigns of other folks?
In any case, I really dont want that idiot Carlos Alvarez messing with this election!

AHA was born Albert E. Harum, III named after his father, Judge Al Harum, Jr. whose surname, Harum, is actually Norwegian. His Mom is Italian. AHA married his wife, who is from Puerto Rico, and as is the custom of her family, they hyphenated the two names once married. AHA is Catholic, a registered Republican and an Environmentalist . . . so with all of that clear, can we look at each candidate for what they have to offer their community on the Commission from the standpoint of knowledge, skills, experience, temperament, integrity and intelligence?

I am not Mr. Harum-Alvarez, but I think it important that we know the candidates and cast our votes based on their experience and ability to serve us well.
The more I learn about Harum-Alvarez, the more I like him. So far he is the most interesting candidate.

Who gives a "rat fink" about ethnicity, a family name, who's mayor of another city, who's RTL advocate. who's in a vipers nest, what orgs have their token candidates, another County stooge, on & on.
Sorenson's PAB rep has done an admirable job and quickly
elected chair with expert knowledge of the county's CDMP &
pressing issues qualify PAM GRAY to be our next commissioner of Dist 8.

You're right, we should elect the next Commissioner from those who have the "most experience."
For me, those folks are, so far - Palmetto Bay's Eugene Flinn, Homestead's Lynda Bell and Pam Gray. 2 have led their own communities and Pam Gray at least serves on a governmental board - although I'm thinking she's just a one issue candidate.
Environment! Environment! Environment! Environment!
People, the environment is very important, yes, it is vital BUT we have to take on other priorities too like job creation and job retention, the lowering of the millage rate, less government red tape, taking care of the Homesless situation. Making Jackson Memorial Hospital solvent again, Create business opportunities - you know a well-rounded candidate not just an environmental "one trick pony."

Was Flinn speaking as Mayor? He does have a dual role as a candidate and then one as mayor. He is in a difficult position because he is still in office and does have to continue to pay attention to his constituents. Where as the other candidates are pretty much not in the same limelight having ever move judged in the same way as Flinn.
He has done wonderful as mayor.
Maybe someone should tell 'Chris' to shut his mouth then, he could be jeopardizing his future position with Flinn and his current one with Mayor Alvarez.

Gray has far more working experience than Flinn & Bell combined - in the real world.
Her background is in finance and she owns small business. She's also very solid on infill development in addition to her knowledge of zoning/land use.
Yes, she's big on environmental issues, but she's also sharp as a razor when it comes to job creation and budget issues. She creates them and solves them.

Flinn is a businessman as well. He is an attorney. It is hard to compare career experience among the candidates. Apples and Oranges. One has to look for relevance to the seat.

I was sent the email. And, yes Albert Harum Alvarez was lumped in by the pubs as one of the "Conservative" candidates. I called him up and he was surprised --although a fiscal conservative he is progressive on most county issues. apparently his MOM sent an email to the pubs and God only knows what a MOM will do or say.
In any event, the email thread did appear to be accurate as the reader stated.

I have a few questions about Bell, Like why did she sell her city out to the mayor of Sweetwater, and why did she fired 40 city employees just to turn around and hire a pricy firm in Hialegh to do the same job for MORE money.
Will she do the same thing to dist 8, will she sell the rest of us out just to benifit her special interest, like she did before?

Just 2 months ago, she was seriously thinking of running for Florida CFO to replace Alex Sink and right after President Obama was elected, she was after the Administrator of the SBA job in DC (don't know what happaned there).

AT got the political bug during the Obama campaign she was challenging Ileana Ros-Lehtinen... She seems to want the fame, but her job would be more than lovely newspaper pictures and tea parties. She is not connected with the poverty in her area. She is fluffy in a rich way.
I was at the UEL Dinner/Forum last night at the Rusty Pelican.
I never met Taddeo before. She's taller than I expected. She was very polite. I had seen her campaign ads during her run for Congress. I thought they were pretty good at the time for a novice and she was well funded.
BUT after what I saw last night coupled with her brief statement at her first County Commission appearence last month - WOW! That woman is a total space cadet!
She stammered a bit, maybe because the stupid microphone was out of wack, I'll give her that much, but man, she went incoherently from one issue to the other, had to read from a prepared statement rather than speak off the cuff like most candidates on the dais.
She would bring up something interesting then fail to expand on the subject she was going into. She was all over the place last night!
But one of the things I was able to 'absorb' from her comments was her support to ADD 2 more Commissioners to the 13 already there! WOW! That's all that we need now - more politicos and bureaucracy at the County! NOT!!
I gotta tell you that from the 2 appearences I've seen so far - 2 strikes!
At least when she ran for Congress, she was coherent. Maybe she should try that again cause she is TOTALLY out of her element with this group.
Just because someone can buy a seat, doesn't mean they are qualified to be a commissioner! We are replacing one of our best (Sorenson) with some potential worsts!
"Rabbi" Marmorstein is a good example. Not even officially a rabbi--not recognized by any rabbinical association as one.
The Rabbi's only support comes from the pro-Israel mafia. Hardly anyone has donated to his campaign.
Taddeo is not liberal. She is pro-big business. She's a Democrat party stooge. Thats why she's raised the most money of all the candidates.
Vote for the environmentalist Albert Harum-Alvarez who supports Amendment 4(Florida Hometown Democracy), opposes FPL's proposed expansion of nuclear reactors, and opposes high density development. He also supports firing county manager George Burgess. He wants to eliminate corruption and he wants accountability from everyone he deals with.
