Little Opposition in County Commission Races. By Geniusofdespair

There are two races for County Commission with no opposition, Sally Heyman's and Rebeca Sosa's seats. That is more than pathetic. I guess everyone is figuring what is the point, you can't unseat these fat cats in the County Commission. But hey, if you are in their district, register just to annoy them for a month or two. You will force them to open campaign accounts and that means the lobbyist will have to fund-raise.

The Pepe Diaz opponent, Heather Pernas, didn't even bother calling back, not a very serious candidate if you ask me. I think she just stuck her name in there for the hell of it. Good idea Heather! I think Mimi Planas is a real honest-to-goodness candidate, let's hope she wins. Dorrin Delano Rolle has 3 opponents for his seat. Florence "Flomo" Moss never called me back, so scratch her. Celestin is horrible. Then there is Jean Monestime. Don't know much about him except that he served on the North Miami Council and ran for Mayor of North Miami but lost. The most interesting race is the Sorenson Seat, District 8 with 6 candidates.

Mr Monestime walked and knocked door to door when he ran for Mayor of North Miami. Engaging and able to pinpoint with clarity the issues facing the city at the time ( not that they've really changed ) -- I really liked him and will vote for him.

One of Rolle's chief campaign strategist is running Monestime's campaign this year, because he looked at Rolle's numbers in '06 (5,000 votes despite $300,000 raised)and concluded Rolle can be beat.

Mr. Monestime served for several years as a councilmember and vice mayor for the City of North Miami.

He's running on a platform of HONESTY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND TRANSPARENCY.

He is well known in both North Miami and North Miami Beach. With less than 10 % of registered voters voting in district 2 every election, a strong turnout will easily elect Mr. Monestime to the chair.

Mr. Celestin (the other Haitian candidate) is not much better than Rolle. Mr. Celetin is also a Republican.

I agree on your opinion of Celestin.

Hmm - why no coverage on folks running for Katy's seat?

We have been covering it for weeks. And the Miami Herald had a big article on Flinn the other day.

Genius, they re printed an article from the Pinecrest Community News, run by the Miller Brothers who are hoping Flinn will win by osmosis. The Community new ran a similar article on 3/1 in the local Palmetto Bay paper and will probably be seeing something similar in Cutler Bay. They're pretending no other candidates exist. In my opinion, they're worse than the Herald as it relates to Development! The Herald should stop re printing Community New Stories unless they plan on giving space to the rest of the Dist. 8 candidates.

G.O.D. if you so disappointed that there aren't enough candidates running, why don't you throw your name in the ring and stop complaining on how our local government is so corrupt.

Here is an idea.... Stop complaining and do something about it.

last idiot....i write every day, that is enough, i do a tremendous amount of research to write these blogs. I will give you the money for YOU to register to run.

If you think all i do is complain here is a better idea for you, don't read this blog. We don't need you.

Heather Pernas is in there just because she is pissed off with Pepe Diaz, nothing more. As a Dist 12 resident and her neighbor, I feel she is doing the wrong thing.
Taking time away from a hard working commissioner like Pepe Diaz to run a campaign is selfish.
District 12 has improved tremendously since Diaz has been there.
Heather, we love you, but find something better to do with your time.

It appears you have a Pepe Diaz aide reading your blog. No rational human being could sing his praises.

Actually you have the entire staff reading this wonderful, always one-sided blog.

If you are an editorializing entity, as this blog is, you are bound to have an opinion sometimes...duh.

I've met Mimi Planas and think she would be good for the job. Plus, haven't we had Javier Souto for long enough??

Ive met Mimi Planas, too. And she's not so nice. But what makes her a good candidate? Other than not wanting Javier Souto? What experience does she have?

Geniusofdespair said...

She is not so nice? What are we to make of that? Souto has to go. Have you ever listened to him speak? Anyone else would make more sense. Why don't you run?
