Miami Lakes Mayor Michael Pizzi is readying to announce his decision to run for Congress, in a seat soon opening as a consequence of another departure; the retirement of long-time Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart. Pizzi, a Miami attorney with deep roots in citizen activism on the side of protecting the public interest (Urban Development Boundary, rock mining, Seijas), intends to run for Congressional District 25. The Congressional seat is held by Mario Diaz-Balart, who has announced his intent to run for the seat being vacated by his brother.
A Washington Post blog, "The Fix", speculates that Joe Garcia is considering a run: "Garcia is reportedly interested in running again ... One complicating factor for Garcia is that he is currently working in an appointed post in the Obama Administration. Another Democrat mentioned is Miami-Dade Commissioner Katy Sorenson who recently announced she would not seek re-election to her current post." (Feb 11, 2010)
Eyeonmiami has written extensively about Pizzi's work on the side of the public against powerful, special interests. (Check out our archive by typing in "Pizzi" in the search line.) He plans to build a grass roots campaign based on his record as a candidate for the people.

It's sure going to be an interesting election cycle!
I wish Mike would concentrate on the commission seat to be vacated by the vile one.
Damn! Lincoln FINALLY gets the hell out and now I get his freaking brother! Any chance a decent person will run? Last time, I was told to choose between Lincoln and Raul Martinez! I had to leave that one blank. :)
I'm appreciative of the info and update! Up here in WPB, I've been working for the Dems since the last Presidential election ... I've only moved back to FL from Boston since 07. I was working for Kendrick Meek for the senate seat... however; after some due diligence on him (via District 5) I have ceased to support him .. and I wonder who we Democrats will have to count on to run for that seat other than him. [I refer to his involvement with Stackhouse and the Trusts].
Gwen become a Republican that's what I did...
Snap your heels and repeat "there's no place like home, there no place like home, there's no place like home......" and soon you'll be behind the wheel of a Hummer Driving home from Church to your suburban Mcmansion, where Toto is waiting for you.
the list on Elephant side is growing, rumblings are that
Carlos Curbelo ,Diaz Balart, Crist Campaign Strategist and currently Lemiuex staffer is thinking about it.
Paul Crespo former member of Herald Editorial Board and Univision radio talk show Host also rumored to be interested
Carlos Gimenes (But I think someone's just keeping his name out there, he's too serious a contender for County Mayor at this point)
Hi guys. I have heard rumors that this seat (District 25) as well as District 21 already have the names of who they belong to on them. (Mario and Rivera, respectively.) The only issue I have with Mike Pizzi running for this Congressional seat is that as of five minutes ago, he has yet to register for this seat and pay the registration fee. However he has already stated he was the first person to announce their intention for this seat (Miami Laker) which at the time the article came out was also not true. http://election.dos.state.fl.us/candidate/CanList.asp
I have added the link to the Florida Dept of Elections with the names of those already registered to run. Mike loves to create news where it often doesn't exist and appoint himself to positions that were never offered to him. Like Census Ambassador, which many other politicians who have been doing work getting citizens to reply to the census have admitted his late entry and self appointment to that post.
