Voters in South Miami will be electing a new mayor or voting for the incumbent in next week's city election. The choice is clear. FIU researcher and professor Philip Stoddard is just the breath of fresh air the City of South Miami needs. Eyeonmiami does not make endorsements often or lightly. Mr. Stoddard and a core group of South Miami citizens have become involved and want a chance to change deficits of leadership under the current administration. While Mr. Stoddard did take aim at the approval process involving two new nuclear reactors sought by Florida Power and Light, his approach to investigation, learning, and decision-making is inclusive and thorough. Incumbent Mayor Horace Feliu testified to the Public Service Commission in favor of the new nukes without ever mentioning to fellow commissioners or the public that he was taking a public stand on this highly controversial issue. Days later he received big donations from FPL employees to his mayoral campaign (see video link here). "No one has spoken against this project," Feliu told the PSC which is not true. Stoddard is practical and inventive and committed to service: just the sort of involvement in our politics that is in such short supply. Let's hope that the voters of South Miami hear enough about Philip Stoddard by election day to welcome him in South Miami as a new leader and contributor to our public life.

Good choice, I agree. He came to my home and we had a nice chat about a few issues. I like Mr. Stoddard's open mind attitude.
Phil is a person of great integrity and intelligence. He's open-minded, reasonable, and listens when others offer ideas. I think that he's the best mayoral candidate South Miami has had in a long time.
Voting for him!
can you re-post this next week on election day? it's such a small election that a lot of south miami residents might even fogret to go vote.
He came also to my house and we had a good chat. His no-nonsense, analytical and open minded approach to issues is uplifting. He has my vote!
My family and I are voting for the incumbent. Don't stop progress in the city. FPL lines are welcome and will help us financially.
FPL lines are welcome? Maybe. You should have a chat with North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin, see what they did for his city.
Progress is not ruining our city. I love South Miami, we need a change.
Dr. Stoddard seemingly has good ideas, however,Horace Feliu is probably the most effective Mayor in the history of our City. The highlight of his twelve years of honorable service to our City was highlighted when he delivered our city from financial ruin. In his inimitable and unassuming way, he has left his fingerprints throughout this wonderful City of ours.
Horrace effective? He has been a nightmare.
As you go through your day, become aware of those thoughts that originate from your darkness, and those from your light.....like beauty, a nightmare is in the mind of the beholder....Go Horace !!!
Mr. Feliu has an arrest record for domestic violence, he took money from FP&L and testified in their favor without the knowledge of the residents or the commission, he was arrested for before on of his prior elections and later found guilty by the ethics commission, he was found guilty by the elections commission in multiple cases... Why would anybody in their right mind want a character like this as their leader. BTW all this can be found on the internet.
I say change is good.
Dr. Stoddard seems an ethical person with no skelettons in the closet.
Like any dedicated scientist, Dr. Stoddard thoroughly investigates issues and amalgamates information to form sound decisions or conclusions based on facts. He has foresight and a keen instinct for discovering the truth that lies within an issue at hand. He was my professor, and he will be equally as challenging when tackling and solving the issues facing South Miami. His course was the class in which my brain worked the most at making connections and using my observations, research, and studies to making conclusions. No student could ever pass one over on Dr. Stoddard!
Most importantly, like all dedicated scientists, he knows that his work cannot be completed successfully in isolation. He is genuine when he speaks to South Miami residents. In asking for your support, he is also asking for increased citizen participation throughout the term so that together, with Dr. Stoddard at the helm, the entire city can work towards a brighter, greener future.
Good luck Dr. Stoddard and City of South Miami residents!
What would happen if Phil got elected?
PROGRESS!
Congratulations, Dr. Stoddard!
Finally! Honesty, Integrity, and Intelligence beat out Greed, Corruption, and Ego!
I am going to try this again--you didn't publish my other remarks. I predict utter chaos at City Hall now that the Wing Nuts have succeeded in convincing the electorate that Stoddard, Newman and Harris will be good for the City of South Miami. Stoddard is a scientist and doesn't know a thing about politics. Newman is about to be tried for ethics violations. And Harris has long been identified by the "activist" moniker, which in this town means a person who attends commission meetings for the express purpose of disrupting them.
Interesting that when one does not agree with an election's outcome, he is considered a sore loser. Newman has had her chance and has managed to create utter chaos on the dais--so I don't see her bringing us anything new, only more of the same. I can only hope that Stoddard has the strength to withstand her and her cadre of "activists." Walter Harris, is a nice and naive guy who is about to walk into a buzz saw. Give Stoddard and Harris a chance--of course--but not Newman--I've seen her histrionics, thanks.
So how does everyone feel about now about this?
