The End of Community Councils is near! By Geniusofdespair

County Commissioner Pepe "Poison Pill" Diaz put this on the Agenda of The Government Operations Committee, which means, you should all incorporate into a City quickly:

ORDINANCE RELATING TO COMMUNITY COUNCILS/COMMUNITY ZONING APPEALS BOARDS; AMENDING CHAPTER 20 ARTICLE IV AND CHAPTER 33 ARTICLE XXXVI OF THE CODE OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA (“CODE”); MODIFYING THE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY COUNCILS/COMMUNITY ZONING APPEALS BOARDS TO NO MORE THAN FOUR; MODIFYING BOUNDARIES OF COMMUNITY COUNCILS/COMMUNITY ZONING APPEALS BOARDS TO CONFORM TO BOUNDARIES OF COUNTY COMMISSION DISTRICTS; MODIFYING COMMUNITY COUNCIL RESPONSIBILITIES; PERMITTING ELECTED AND APPOINTED MEMBERS CURRENTLY IN OFFICE TO REMAIN IN OFFICE UNTIL RESIGNATION, REMOVAL OR EXPIRATION OF TERM; PROVIDING SEVERABILITY, INCLUSION IN THE CODE AND AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

They want to appoint all members rather than have them elected. So what will be the point of having them.

The devil is in the details of this monster. It strips the Community Councils purpose for being there in the first place. Read the whole thing and all the things Pepe is trying to strip out of this. He might as well just ask to eliminate Councils altogether because he's totally neutered them in this.

While some are focusing on an the appointment issue, it isn't going to fly, he doesn't have the votes.

The boundary issues is another problem. Can you say Gerrymandering at it's best!

Redland and Redland's Edge would love to incorporate, but that's not going to happen as long as the VNS is alive and on the BCC.

Miss Genius: you should start doing a better job of tracking legislative items of the county commission. This item first appeared before the committee last year and it was already decided that the members would remain elected. Other changes to the item are also being contemplated by the committee members and commissioner diaz is working with council members on a compromise. Get your facts straight before you publish your blog. We can't expect you to be fair but you can at least be responsible.

How do they get 4 councils to follow 13 commission boundaries? Diaz has tried to get rid of the councils for a long time, he is such a piece of crap. I wish the feds would finish their investigation and send him to the big house where he deserves to be.
