Rebellion at the Hyatt Nursing Home. By Geniusofdespair

The soup was cold and my 102 mother-in-law was not going to stand for it. She organized her table, all four ladies in wheelchairs. She advised her luncheon companions to not eat the lukewarm soup in protest. They didn't. Four bowls went back to the kitchen untouched. Next meal, the soup was hot. A job well done, everyone is happy again.

What next, Ann? The coffee?

Good for her!
Let's hope they never try to serve them lumpy oatmeal.

Thank goodness she has her wits about her and can stand up for herself (and tablemates). I know this item was meant to be funny but there is a serious underlying issue here. Most nursing home patients suffer from some dementia or are too weak physically to protect themselves from bad food, shoddy treatment or outright abuse. And they don't have family members there to watch out for them. I encourage more people to volunteer at nursing homes. It humbles you and makes you appreciate your life more so. I know because I was the caretaker for my mother who was in a nursing home for many years. These are our elders and they should be respected.
