Haiti ... by gimleteye

"The ways of God are unknown and unknowable", is used to soften the blow of tragedy. If God is good and just, why destroy Haiti? Why turn an impoverished megacity, Port Au Prince, already lacking the most basic infrastructure, to rubble: death toll unknown? Pray, pray for those who perished and a mercifully quick passing. Pray for the injured and the survivors, the countless poor without access to clean water, food, hygiene, or shelter. Pray that the Dominican Republic opens its borders quickly to relief efforts, with humane treatment so desperately lacking in the recent past. I hope that the logistics of the US military are brought to bear to rescue and speedily evacuate as many as possible from the ruins and that our soldiers are safe in the chaotic days ahead. If you can give, please do so to an established charity. We know how you suffer and we cry for you, Haiti.

I don't know about praying, if you really want to help get to a Red Cross collection site and give something necesary (Water, hand opened can goods, clothing, etc etc etc). If god exist (NO one knows for sure either way) I assure you he's not some bearded old whit dude sitting on a cloud writing down everything wrong you do, wait a minute.....isn't that Santa Claus ;-). Another argument against the existence of God is that oral Roberts hasn't been struck by lightning or swallowed by the ground.

Why am I feeling the need to quote from Friedrich Nietzsche as I watch (or can longer do) the photo's coming out of Haiti.

I'm sending a check to my favorite charity - the Salvation Army. They have lower admin costs than the Red Cross and are on the ground there too.

I think that was Pat Robertson Cato. He is the one that said the Haitians had a pact with the devil.

I simply don't know what to say. It is so tragic for a people that have already been suffering. We have been averting our eyes from Haiti for far too long. Finally people are seeing the Island.

People in Haiti are dying as we speak, and we need to get help to them now. As a show of unity with Haitian-American activists and environmental groups in South Florida, I would like you to pick up your cell phone and text the word “HAITI” to 90999 That’s all you need to do to give $10 to the Red Cross on your cell bill. It’ll be money very well spent.

Perhaps the Haitians will finally reconsider practicing that voodoo. For the record, I will not be donating.

50 years ago I took part in a voodoo
ceremony. It was not terrible and by now almost all Haitians are Christians. Please send money as that is the major need. The proper agencies can decide where the money will help the people the most.

Did that person actually mean it about the voodoo. My neighbor down the street is a Santaria (sp??). Does that mean if we get flooded with a hurricane, no one will come down our street to help us? Shit - I knew I should have moved out of Kendall before the bubble burst.

Careful how you donate. In past disasters aid money got diverted to criminals.

Americans are dying too. 10% to 15% of Americans are unemployed. Millions have had no employment for over two years.

If America can become fiscally strong again THEN we will be better able to donate to others.

Voodoo did not work and now the us is their rescue, don't believe that the us should give tps permanent to the haitians cause there are alot of americans and others who are unemployed and should be prioritized
