City of Miami Commissioner for District 5 is Rev. Richard Dunn. By Geniusofdespair
10:30 p.m. - The City of Miami Commission appointed (no one yet) as the Commissioner for District 5. Whomever they appoint will remain until there is either an election or Michelle Spence-Jones beats the rap. So far it is 2 for Rev. Richard Dunn and 2 for Pierre Rutledge (pictured left). 10:45 p.m. - Another vote, still deadlocked. Gort and Carollo are voting for Dunn and Suarez and Sarnoff are voting for Rutledge. 11:00 p.m.- Dunn promised he wouldn't run for the District, he would just care-take the seat and mentor the young candidates, so the Commissioners voted for him.

Typical City of Miami Crap.
Congratulations to Dunn and per this morning's herald article, Horray for Patrick Range. Well said!
It's all about getting out to vote.
I dont think it was typical. Especially if Dunn does not run.
We need to ask all the commissioners if they have a record that would embarrass the residents of Miami. They should be asked in the Sunshine and also be made part of the record.
Can they legally ask someone not to run for office? It seems like a violation of our democratic process.
He volunteered not to run.
According to the Miami Herald the city attorney stated that this is not enforceable. Dunn will make use of this time to convince commissioners to retract that. This was a done deal way before 11pm - completely scripted. The process which took place on Tuesday night was demeaning to all these candidates, most of them better qualified and educated than the people who sit at the dais now. Arrogance prevailed.
Richard Dunn has been called lazy and dumb. He has a weak staff. As usual Dist 5 gets screwed.
There were 5 better candidates than Dunn. Dunn is dumb. His first hires were a disbarred attorney and a former city employee who left the City after getting arrested. Typical district 5.
What is it about the City of Miami's District 5 that requires that only the lowest of the low become commissioner and then that commissioner hires various rejects and alledged criminals for staff?
Dunn swore he would accept the appointment just until November 2010. He promised he would not run. He said his church members were there to witness his promise and his promise was on tape and on the record.
He did not promise to keep criminals off his staff.
