Will Willie Gort be coming back? By Geniusofdespair

Remember City of Miami Commissioner Willie Gort? Well, rumor has it he is going to run for Angel Gonzalez's vacated seat. It was decided today at the City of Miami Commission meeting that there will be an election in January to fill the seat.

Congratulations to our new City of Miami government for agreeing to hold elections in District 1 & 5 to replace those Commissioners removed under a cloud of suspicion. Too bad they where not removed prior to their agreeing to support the subsidies of the Marlin Stadium and Parking Garage. It is now critical that the City, States Attorney, Election Board and even the FBI make sure that these elections are on the up & up. There needs to be better regulations and security to protect the absentee ballots from being abused. There must be efforts made to restrict the gate-keepers of the senior apartments and section 8 buildings from controlling access to candidates and providing bulk sales of votes.

GOD NO!

Willy Gort is too old. He would be a return to old style corruption. District 1 has better candidates.

Being too old has nothing to do with it. Making money currently off the City and the County is another thing. He will show up thinking he is running the show.

Gort is old and feeble.

It is time to elect an intelligent interested resident as commissioner.

Yes, definetly, absentee ballots were abused in the mayoral elections. Tommy had over 10,000, they say that the FOP, some of which were on paid city time, collected many in person from the senior buildings. In most cases those people didn't even know who they were voting for, they just trusted the police at the door...shame on the FOP!!! By the way, did Tommy already lower his salary??????????????

I remember Gort he was part of that same system in the city of Miami that has been broken with corruption and fraud. We need new blood in the city.

Willie Gort's wife is on a City board. She never says a word and she always votes for whatever scheme developers want. She does not seem to have an independent thought in her head. Is Willie the same?

Enough with the old-style Miami government; the City of Miami needs young blood to be running the commission. I'm sure Gort is only interested in collecting a pension that didn't exist when he was commissioner way back when. I believe he only needs to be on a year and he can collect big, being that he is already over the age of 55.

A firefighter was caught on 12-26-09 picking up Absentee ballots for Willy Gort Police case # 091226 408167 He was in possession of several ballots. Sargant Guilet from the Miami Police was the supervisor on the seen along with several other officers. They refused to check inside the vehicle even after having an eye witness The croud was shocked to her the Sargent say he personally liked willy Gort. This guy Gort is worst than angel Gonzalez at least angel waited till he was there to commit acts of corruption. way to go viejito. keep up the bad work.

I am not a City of Miami Resident, but I am a Florida Resident in Miami Dade County and very concern as to what goes on in local political elections, after all it affect everyone in Florida, we are already known as the most corrupt State of the Union and Miami has a bad reputation, I just read that a firefighter was caugh picking up absentee ballots for Willy Gort, it is my understanding that it is illegal to pick up someone else absentee ballots unles you have in your posetion in writing an authorization from the voter to pick up such a ballot, if this firefighter was caugh doing something illegal, (1) he/she should be arrested, (2) the police sergeant that was present shouldn't no make public coments as to who he likes as a candidate, but it is obvious and apparent to me that the police present at the scene and the firefighter most be working together, the report was made upon the insistance of the eyewitness and still the police did not search the vehicle of the firefighter to see and determine how many ballots he/she had in posetion, we don't know if this ballots were for willy gort anyway, I am sure if the ballots were not for Willy Gort all the firefighter has to do is destroy those ballots and the candidate who was going to receive those votes is out of luck, why can the police enforce the law when they should, perhaps is much easier for them to write a parking ticket, enough is enough the City of Miami specially district 1 has much better and younger candidates, better educated and dedicated citizens, Willy Gort was a commissioner before, he is from the old corrupt school, it is time for the people of the City Miami to wake up and elect a young educated and responsible new commissioner

It appears that because some bad apples were around "back in the day" everyone is being judged by the same criteria. We all have a right to our opinion, I wont take that away from you or anyone else, but I do suggest you study his record, inform yourself on the good he did for our city and district, before saying "no" because of his age. I've lived around the United States and have seen corruption by the young (recently Hoboken, NJ mayor) and old, (Secaucus, NJ Mayor). Not comparing NJ issues and Florida issues just saying age, has nothing to do with it- experience may be the thing our city needs at this time. But not only experience, we need integrity, we need a family person who is willing to stand up for what is right and who is passionate about making a difference for each person. Someone who respects residents and who truly is there for us. You may say its for some check that wasn't available way back when he was commissioner, but I am 100% sure he is running because he wants to work hard in order to make our city and district a better place. I can't really think of someone more qualified and who would do a better job. I urge you to really look at all the good he did in his terms and check all the facts!!

May our city elect someone who is ready to make a big difference for the better in each of our lives!! Go Willy Go!!!!
