Outcome of Virginia Key Master Plan Vote at the City of Miami. By Geniusofdespair

The Virgina Key Master Plan was deferred till May. Landfill remediation on VK was approved because it won't be costing money, same with the mountain bike trails for the North Point. I believe the mountain bikers are going to make the trails. The City Commission also voted to identify a funding source for Virginia Key Beach Park Museum (that was Michelle Spence-Jones' motion).

Commissioner Sarnoff made the Motion to Defer. It was an excellent compromise. Now the consultants and the City can listen and learn from the well informed and involved residents and activists. The proposed Master Plan can be improved before it is brought back.

Regalado took Ana Gelabart to task for not sending anyone to the charette the UEL held and for not telling the Master Planners about the meeting.

Good for Tomas!Maybe he will fire her.

Sarnoff also said he liked the five story parking garages and wants development on the island to get more revenue for the city of miami.

Sarnoff also said that "if anyone thinks Virginia Key Beach Trust Park", he can't even say it correctly, is going to make it without a structure, their not. It's not going to come from the general fund.

Virginia Key and its attached beaches are amazing natural resources. The residents of Miami-Dade County, the City of Miami and Key Biscayne are very fortunate to have such a natural resource within minutes of their homes.

If individual private groups want money they should raise funds privately like every other private group. Often the main job of Board of Directors is to raise money privately. The age of taking massive salaries and massive benefits for doing no work should be long gone. If private donors want to pay so-called executives for no-show jobs that is their cross to bear. Please do not extort money from hard working taxpayers.

Let Virginia Key stay natural and unburdened by corruption.
