Do we have a viable candidate against County Commissioner Javier Souto? By Geniusofdespair

Miriam "Mimi" Planas wants to be a contender! She said: "It is with great humility and honor that I chose to pursue my candidacy for Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 10." District 10 is the largest in Miami-Dade County, with residents of many ethnicities and backgrounds. Planas has raised $6,813.30 - some of it from a garage sale. She has $5 and $1 donations. Souto, on the other hand, got 30 $500 donations and his total so far is $14,150, Miguel DeGrandy (& related) is there, of course, for about $1,500 and Shoma Homes interests gave about $2,000.

Save the Date! Meet Miriam Planas at the Kendale Lakes Meet & Greet, Monday October 19 at 7:00pm. My advice to Planas: STOP SPENDING SO MUCH MONEY - Souto wisely, hasn't spent a dime. Let your campaign walkers buy their own pizza.

Souto needs to retire. Poor guy has a good staffer or two but he still votes to spend more than the County has.

What does she say about the UDB?

She probably doesn't know what it is.

She knows very well what the UDB is about. She will not help move it. I beleave she is in favor of TERM LIMITS, that is a big plus.

Wake up Westchester!!!

(!!!) = me LOL

It will take a miracle to unseat an incumbent member of the unreformable majority. But there is always hope miracles can happen!

Souto is asleep 80% of the time, rambling another 10% of the time and spends the rest of his time at Jackson Hospital giving useless gifts like a baseball to his doctors.
This young candidate will bring a bright light to the county commission. She can stay awake on the dias.
Wake up District 10, Vote for Mimi Planas.

Funny, how a majority of contributions are coming from interests outside District 10.

Interests must begin outside of a district to reform said district.

Souto has been there too long. We need Term Limits county wide for these commissioners and it will take everyone in every district to bring it on.

Yes, I'll jump over from my district to help Miriam 'Mimi' Planas in District 10.
Let's walk!!! And keep the pizza.

Is she running on the anti-catatonic platform? She just needs to stay awake during the debate and she'll win.

What a smile...that could win it!

Souto must be vested by now. He should retire.

Great post Dr Alonso. Time to clean up the county commission with New Blood.

Thank you Eye On Miami for your blog, great things will come to this county if people would read more and be better prepared when voting.

Mimi Planas can turn things around for a withering district with a snoozing commissioner.

At the same time we need to focus on who to elect for district 115 state rep.
Will it be Dr. Jeffery Solomon?
We hear he has a lot of potential. How about it geniusofdespair? What's the scoop on Solomon?

Keep dreaming as long as they got that 700K + slush fund and campaign cash to buy AB Ballots nobodies unseating any of these crooks.
She lost me here
"affordable housing and economical development that provides quality jobs at living wages and adequate healthcare"
She will spend my money as if it where hers just like the current commissioner.

Souto has a reputation for being asleep on the dais 80% of the time. And it is also true that the hundreds of thousands in their 'slush funds' makes incumbent commissioners almost impossible to beat.
Still, supporting credible candidates is extremely important because it's the only thing that keeps politicians on their toes. Besides, Mimi Planas might just win!
