The following letter to the editor was printed in The Miami Herald on Friday, August 14th. It's a good one! Readers may want to verify or dismiss its observation: is the fight or flight impulse on health care reform enraging anti-Obama demonstrators also making them fat? Are objectors to health care reform fatter than supporters? We will gladly accept photos of demonstrators weighing one side of the argument against the other.
Here is the LTE:
"I muted the TV on a healthcare town-hall meeting to take a phone call. Before I turned the sound back on I looked at the scene: The angriest people by far were overweight, out-of-shape individuals. This was so fascinating that I muted every broadcast protest that came along and found this uniformly true. What do you suppose that means? Folks who are playing Russian Roulette with their own health and unfocused on making any contribution to their well-being are very vocal about our healthcare system and any changes that might be made. If they're so concerned about healthcare reform they should start with reforming their own and put some salad into their mouths once in a while instead of all that pizza.
NATALIE ALTMAN, Hallandale"

We are at a turning point and if the storm troopers win because we don't fighyt back we all will have lost a huge chance to get some meaningful change that is good for our neighbors, even the self destructive ones.
And yes, the new plan will include mandated government salads for all, among other horrors.
I know from the jury pools that many of these same folks are collecting some form of disability either from Social Security or a state agency, or both.
More government interference in private markets!
baby if I am taxed to pay for your health care, you best believe you better put down that quarter pounder and pick up some salad...
The letter to the editor only points too which side of this debate the editors of the Herald lean (pun intended). This is just anecdotal BS, if you looked at those on both sides of this argument you'd see individuals who should probably skip few meals.
Not to worry about your neighbors girth if this keeps going the way it is we'll all look like ethiopians in about 20 years (if were lucky).
Some years ago, i was denied health insurance. Their reasoning was that there must be something wrong with a forty year old man that weighs only 140 lbs. go figure.
my favorite are the senior citizens that show up wearing their marine or old army hats telling the rest of us how evil socialized medicine is. ask them who pays for their healthcare. ask them if they'll give it up and go out to buy private insurance.
The ACORN and SEIU bunch are an example of fitness. NOT!!!
A cool letter? You must be joking. Do you really think it is productive to suggest that your opposition is fat and out of shape and therefore irrelevant? This is possibly the most immature letter I have ever seen on the health care issue.
I have not seen any scientific studies (and I am sure you haven't either) about whether conservatives or liberals are fatter. But based simply on observing that bloated whale known as "Tubby" Ted Kennedy, the biggest advocate of socialized medicine in our nation, I would definitely place my bet on those fat and lazy limousine liberals.
Ha ha ZigZag! You are right on target! This letter is just more liberal hypocrisy. I have seen my share of fat liberals and you are correct to note they spend way too much time munching at the public trough.
You inspired me to create my personal top 10 list of fat liberal supporters of Obama's health care plan. Click on their names to see their fat faces.

I love this blog but think the letter to the Herald was a little short sighted and stupid. Marty's post say's a lot about the logic of it, which doesn't exist!
Marty is right on point...This seems to be going in the direction of redistribution of wealth, not, health.
