Good News: The County wants your feed back on Growth Issues at Town Hall Meetings.
Bad News: They scheduled the Town Hall Meetings in August. AUGUST? Are they kidding?
The subject of meeting: Help Plan for Miami-Dade County’s Future:
"Every seven years Miami-Dade County is required to update its Comprehensive Development Master Plan (CDMP) and produce an Evaluation and Appraisal Report (EAR) identifying the County’s major growth management issues (land use, development, transportation, etc). For the EAR 2010 process to be successful, we need to hear from you. Help us plan for Miami-Dade County’s future!"
Well, if you have nothing to do in August (I will be gone) here is the schedule:
Monday, August 24, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. MLK Center
2525 NW 62 Street, 2nd Floor.
Wednesday, August 26, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. 6699 Windmill Gate Road,

The summer is the time that the most important things get done....don't you know that by now Genius?
Correct. Just like Joe Martinez and Bruno using the power of the county commission chair to change agenda schedules around to make it difficult to people to participate in public hearings. S.O.P.
Try getting the commission to mandate solar water heaters on new construction and see the blank looks you get. I tried to get this in the master plan 15 years ago (think of all the construction in the past 15 years) and the builders went nuts; said it would add too much to the cost of a house. The commissioners remained mute and acted like they did not hear me. The EAR process is for whatever the commissioners want.
Any guesses on why Miami-Dade has not joined the lawsuit against the demise of growth management?
And no meetings in the fall because school is starting and nobody is paying attention. No meetings in the winter because that's holiday season and no one is paying attention. No meetings in the Spring...
There is never a good time, so just keep your guard up and show up. At least the meetings are at night and they are being held all over the county.
Do commissioners really care what the public has to say? This is an exercise in futility. Remember the Charter review? After many meetings and recommendations by the task force all went to the circular file.
Well, if a bunch of people show up they will find some way to continue the process so that the next meeting will be held the week before Christmas.
You can also submit comments online and they will be updating the website:
