Dick Cheney: Power Ranger ... by gimleteye

Former Vice President Dick Cheney is on the talk shows and at conservative foundations, darkly warning that America is less safe as though miscalculations of risk were not the hallmark of the Bush terms in the White House. It is impossible to disprove Cheney's thesis-- that America is less safe-- except in light of a future terrorist incident on US soil. Not all the drones in the sky or cameras on street poles can stop low technology from sowing chaos or fiction. (please click, 'read more')

Along with a few million other TV watchers, I've been engaged by "24", that turns technology into a horror show inflicted on Americans by a fictional military industrial complex gone mad in its pursuit of security and profit. The show is pretend but its rampant paranoia is as real in Dick Cheney's mind as it is on prime time. But Cheney's obsessive patter is also like a long running game of Go Fish.

President Obama has not diminished national security by taking real steps to reign in a paranoid culture that put democracy and constitutional rights at severe risk. The thing about asymmetric warfare: it is always asymmetric. Cheney and his apologists are tone-deaf: at the ballot box they lost, but should another terrorist attack occur on American soil in the next three plus years, they will say they won and that Americans who voted for Democrats were the real losers. Some of them are even be writing scripts for Fox.

The third time the flames exploded I saw Cheney's face in the lower left corner.
