The Meek Seat. By Geniusofdespair

There is no shortage of candidates for Kendrick Meek’s seat, District 17, in the 2010 General Election. So far listed are Adam, Leroy (DEM); Poitier, Corey B. (REP); Reilly, Brian (REP); Roberson, Yolly (DEM); Vereen, Roderick D. (DEM) and Wilson, Frederica S. (DEM). I also heard Former State Rep Phillip Brutus and maybe Mayor Shirley Gibson might run. That would bring the total up to 8 people running.

Kendrick Meek is leaving to run for U.S. Senator. I wonder what will happen when he changes his mind? Notice I didn't see "if." Charlie Crist or Alex Sink in the race, even with Kendrick's BFF Bill at his side, would ruin any chance he has. And let's hope mom behaves till the election.

How did the Meek's keep the seat? Carrie Meek waited till the absolute last minute to announce her retirement leaving not enough time for anyone else to mount a campaign thus her son was able to step into her shoes.

If they can get 12 people running, then they can all win and job share... and the public public would know that change is always coming and no one creep will be there to hassle us for very long.

Andre Williams from city council for Miami Gardens has also thrown his hat in the ring. However, what chance does a Republican have in a predominately African American (i.e. democrat) District?

Republican Joe Celestin did okay in Democratic North Miami

Marleine Bastien has also filed to run, and has raised a bit of cash. In that contest, she is currently third, with Wilson the early fundraising leader, and Andre Williams bringing in good haul via ActBlue.
